"This looks important!" I created a trading spreadsheet, my gift to Steemit traders -- it's geared towards trading on Binance; a little complex, but the complexity helps to reduce the expense involved with updating it!

in #bitcoin6 years ago

I started this spreadsheet late last night, working on it for a few hours, getting it to a good point where it served my needs. One of the most important aspects of this for me is reducing the amount of time it takes to update it: if my "tracking tool" takes a lot of time to update, then the chances are low that I will continue updating the tracking tool.

In fact, while creating this I have been thinking "automation thoughts" and will likely write a script to help with this -- hopefully, to the point where I can give the script appropriate API access (so it can't trade or withdraw!), and it'll generate a new spreadsheet and email it to me, or a link to it.

The quote in the title is from the first "Iron Man" movie, from the fight scene at the end. I couldn't find the clip on YouTube, so, I uploaded it! :) It's only 11 seconds long so copyright allows for this usage. Here it is:

Disclaimer: All Your Base, Are Belong to You!

(That's a reference to a Slashdot meme, for which someone wrote a song which I'll link to below. :) )

Today, I made a copy of it and then removed all my trading data and added instructions, so anybody can make use of it in their own trading. The only calculations it performs are internal; it does not reference any external data source, and doesn't save the data anywhere else, either.

I mention this because I'm considering making a service out of this, if I can write the above-mentioned script. If I do so, then the data will be stored on the website that I create so others can use the service. Since one cell in the spreadsheet is "Starting BTC" (i.e., the coins you're starting the trades with), and each "section" shows gain/loss in both coins and dollars, I can foresee some reluctance to using the service.

However, there need be no similar reluctance to use this LibreOffice spreadsheet, as none of the data you enter will leave your computer. (And, if it's enough that the service wouldn't work out, I can always publish the script for others to run.)

Links

That disclaimer out of the way, here's a link to the second post I've made to my WordPress blog (the first being the "Show Steemit Edits" tool I wrote a few months back):

Please let me know if I should change anything in the spreadsheet. I made several changes to it, streamlining it today, and although I've looked over the instructions a few times, it's possible that I left some text that referred to the earlier version.

Enjoy!

And, here's the "All Your Base Are Belong to Us" song, with a catchy beat. It has some really amusing images in it as well!

impressive post of binance.

Thanks for sharing @libertyteeth I will try to understand but wow what a steep learning curve I have been on.

Yes! Sorry I forgot that post on crypto basics; it's difficult to describe the "basics" without describing a whole bunch of complete fields! :)

Check out @haejin for crypto analysis, in terms of trading. In terms of "what are cryptocurrencies" I would encourage you to read the Bitcoin whitepaper, as it describes the vision and was surprisingly prescient on a number of issues: https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf

Its all good, makes me feel younger to be learning new things.

Any insights for someone that was looking into "cloud mining"?

I just finished reading the Bitcoin white page, makes a lot more sense to me now. I guess the question I am trying resolve is this: I have about 200 dollars and maybe 20 hours per month to invest long-term in crypto. I have considered just buying SP for fishyculture and let her creative side fly to "balance my portfolio" of crypto. That would leave me in btc and sd, and I wonder if getting some alt coins might be wise also - or other investments. Your thoughts?

BTC did over 20x this year. I think it'll do at least twice that next year. No guarantees of course!

With only $200 I would be careful about my entry -- Coinbase takes a pretty big fee, and unfortunately is the only one I have experience with. Localbitcoins might help, although you run the risk of someone knowing your face...

With the surprising move of SBD (supposed to be $1, now over $10 -- in fact, $11.65 right now), I think perhaps her blogging might be a good investment! Just make sure she sets the reward to "50% Power Up/50% SBD" instead of "100% Power Up", since the SBD rewards are more than 10 times valuable!

We (@countrylover and I) noticed this the other night as well. I told her about the SBD price increase, and we bought her some STEEM Power using the SBD (one could purchase STEEM and then power it up, but we knew we wanted it as SP and it was neat to see we were able to purchase it that way as well).

Anyway, she had noticed the total value of her account, and after purchasing, it went up quite a bit! The reason being, the Steemit devs pulled a "fast-and-loose" one for calculating the wallet total -- they just use a "$" symbol, and then the number of SBDs in the account, for the SBD line!

After converting those into STEEM, the value was much closer to reality (not quite reality, as she didn't use all her SBDs).

At any rate, as @haejin says (follow him -- he does great TA and I talked to him last night -- oh, I need to write up a report! :) ), I wish you MASSIVE profits! :)

Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks @libertyteeth I make sure to take advantage of the knowledge you and others share on this topic....it's still new to me!

Thanks for those links will be looking in details :) have a nice day

You too!

Ha, reminds me of a story: I was in a carpool in high school, with three girls. While riding one blurted out, "I love you too!" Internally I stammered, wondering how it was that she was able to read my mind and how I was supposed to respond to it -- when fortunately another one responded, "Yeah they're a great band" or something similar.

I had no idea who Bono or The Edge were back then, I had a culturally-sheltered upbringing. :) As Emo Philips said, "Ambiguity -- the devil's volleyball."

I Heard a lot about binance this days , I'm Using bittrex .. What I Understand That You Make a Script To make a spreadsheet & Send it to Your email & it's show Your Gain/loss in every currency , But What do you benefit from this ^^ I didn't Understand but it's look interesting Thank you for sharing :) I like Making Scripts & Trading

I appreciate the attempt to communicate, even if it's in broken English. Here's what I think I understood:

I haven't yet written the script to generate the spreadsheet; I've only done the "manual" version, of that spreadsheet. Once I've completed a few trades and have had to update the spreadsheet manually, I'll be sufficiently motivated to write the script. :)

What do I benefit from this? I can take that question two ways: first, it shows me what my trades were and in fact earlier today was able to tell someone that I made 51% in a Ripple trade that ended yesterday, and took 25 hours. I wouldn't have remembered that -- I'm recovering from multiple concussions, and am often rather forgetful. So, it's also helping me to be able to remember what I've done.

And, taking it the other way: my reputation here benefits from giving things away. I did this for myself, in a few hours the night before last, and then realized that with a few more hours of effort, it can help many. It wasn't "pure" altruism because I knew that people would likely upvote my gift and perhaps follow me.

And that's okay! I really love the open source model, which started as just software but now is being used for investigations (I think James Corbett, of the Corbett Report, coined the phrase "open source investigation") and other endeavors. I think it's really cool that it is spreading to other fields than just software.

Nice thanks for it :)

Excellent ... Thanks. I just got set up on Binance last week.

mostly new news i see in steemit posts and its all new for me and i will try it next @libertyteeth is this giving steem and sbd with usd pair?

I'm not clear on your question. This is a spreadsheet to help track my trades, which I decided to share with others who use Binance for trading.
