The ecological bitcoin mining is coming to Hollywood

in #bitcoin6 years ago

In fact, it is in Illinois that William Shatner, the first actor to have embodied the famous Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek, wants to install a bitcoin ecological mining farm powered largely by a solar installation.

The actor has partnered with the Solar Alliance company based in Vancouver, Canada. The company has announced that the future bitcoin extraction farm will be housed in a decommissioned plant in southern Illinois.

William Shatner himself describes the project as "bizarre" because the blockchain is still a technology largely misunderstood by the general public. However, according to him, that makes sense. He tweeted last week:

Will bitcoin mining become trendy?

It is still too early to talk about trends, but a certain "hype" as we often hear is taking shape. Beyond the hype, the mining sector is starting to become more and more competitive and is moving towards ecology.

Indeed, Solar Alliance now competes with older companies such as NastyMining founded in 2012 or HydroMiner founded in 2014. These companies have the distinction of exploiting renewable energy for mining, NastyMining uses solar energy and wind power while HydroMiner operates hydroelectricity.

Overall, it seems doubly positive. This kind of project legitimizes both the sector and democratize a green mining that is good for the planet and the image of the blockchain.

Celebrities and blockchain, a real emerging romance?

While William Shatner is a pioneer celebrity for green bitcoin mining, others boarded the blockchain's "hype train" much earlier.

Some Hollywood personalities such as Ashton Kutcher or Donald Glover ("Solo") have already expressed interest or even admiration for bitcoin. Jamie Foxx ("Ray") also tweeted last year about the Cobinhood cryptocurrency exchanger highlighting his promise not to impose fees on future investors.

Some go even further, like Steven Seagal ("Hard to Kill"), ambassador for the ICO of "Bitcoiin" last January. Unfortunately, the SEC (Security Exchange Commission) claimed that the project was a scam (pyramid scheme). The actor has since separated completely.

Conclusion:

Many documentaries and films are released on bitcoin and the world of blockchain, it is interesting to see that Hollywood not only houses filmmakers in search of hot topics but also actors ready to try the adventure in this new sector.

Of course, it is still too early to judge whether this will really benefit the blockchain sector in the long run. However, if green mining projects develop and become popular in communities such as Hollywood, it is quite possible that the hype becomes a trend and make the happiness of crypto-investors.
