The debit card service for Cryptopay, Bitwala, TenX and Bitpay debit cards has been suspended as they are no longer supported by Visa. This is because Visa Europe terminated the membership of WaveCrest, a prepaid card service provider, for non-compliance with operating rules.

The news of the suspension of the cards was surprising for the companies that offer the service, because they declared not having received any warning to communicate it to their customers and that in this way take their forecasts, according to the information communicated by the same companies through the social network Twitter.

For their part, WaveCrest users reported that the company reported the situation this morning, claiming that due to Visa's instructions they should immediately cancel all prepaid cards issued and that the funds in them would immediately return to the wallets of cryptocurrencies.

"We, WaveCrest, are the issuer of your Visa Prepaid card, which you have signed up for through one of our program partners. Visa today instructed us to close all Visa prepaid cards issued by WaveCrest with immediate effect."

It is important to note that the announcements and statements of the affected digital exchange houses were limited to informing the situation, with the exception of Bitwala's team, who declared to TNW that from their point of view this symbolizes that Visa is not willing to accompany the growth of the cryptocurrencies.

"The change was very sudden, which did not give us time to properly notify our customers. Securing them is our first priority right now. The decision also symbolizes that Visa, and other traditional financial corporations, are unwilling to serve the growing cryptoeconomy. This, in turn, motivates us to move forward with our vision of creating a first cryptographic bank to provide a bitcoin debit card with uninterrupted service."

However, Visa's declarations establish its commitment to the crypto ecosystem, as long as it does not compromise the security and monitoring of its platform's operating rules, as they are a regulated financial company.

"Visa is committed to the security of its ecosystem and compliance with Visa's operating rules is essential to ensure the security and integrity of the Visa payment system. Our issuer card programs must comply with our membership regulations, as well as all applicable laws."

It should be noted that this time the sanctions also include the European region, an area that was not affected by the last time Visa revoked its services to Xapo and Wirex in Latin America.

The reactions after the suspension of the cards by the users did not wait, in the social networks users are found claiming for answers because they were on the road using these cards as a method of payment and now do not know what measures to take.

"All the cards? Even for European customers? Mine stopped working and I need the money, because I'm on vacation and my hotel has just cancelled my reservation for this reason. What's the big deal? Where's the original ad?"

Unfortunately, it is still not known what other repercussions the suspension of WaveCrest could have, as the interest of new members of the ecosystem has increased for the past year, especially in countries with exchange controls. Several companies, such as Cryptopay, have claimed to be negotiating with other debit card issuers to resume operations as quickly as possible.
