Monero's mining software, which works with the Javascript language and is developed by the CoinHive company, has already generated huge scandals and ethical debates about practising cryptocurrencies mining in secret from website visitors. One of Chile's most popular portals, Reclamamos.cl, has recently been detected with CoinHive's mining software, which has caused a stir and put the company in an uncomfortable situation compared to highly inflamed users.

The first website to report the irregularity was the FayerWayer platform, which found that the source of the Reclamamos.cl portal embedded the code to mine Monero's cryptocurrencies using the equipment of visitors without their permission for four days in a row.

Similar cases involving CoinHive abound online. Recently the Pirate Bay platform, a Starbucks's WiFi network in Argentina and porn sites in China were the most popular scandals on platforms that used this mining tool to profit monetaryly by taking advantage of the most unwary.

CriptoNoticias was able to contact the administrative group Reclamamos. cl, in person with Rafael Bravo, one of its members, who emphasized that this event with the Coinhive miner was "an exercise with new technology", stating that the platform sought to measure the possibility of this software to sustain and improve the initiative of the website through the mining of cryptocurrencies:

"In this case, the implementation of mining code on the site was simply the result of reading an article referring to technologies that allowed mining while users visit your website. As a result, we implemented it a couple of days ago and started measuring. At no time were we aware that this operation would be detrimental to users."

However, instead of becoming just an experiment it turned out to be a measure that has damaged the reputation of the website. The administrative team of Reclamo. cl claims not to have known that the miners of CoinHive were a sensitive issue and that it would cause such a stir.

Nevertheless, leaving aside the bitter experience, the firm considers that this action has rewarded them with a learning experience to understand the degree of underdevelopment in Chilean legal institutions in the specific subject of regulation for innovative technology, as is the case of cryptocurrencies and mining.

"The most positive thing about the experience was to see how difficult the relationship between them is becoming as a result of technological advances. In order to identify this type of malware, the source code of the website can be reviewed, where the code that the miner executes in the visitor's computers should be embedded. Also, if a web page loads slowly in an unusual way, it could be the activation of the Coinhive miner, evidence that the software consumes a lot of processing power from the device.

If a computer is affected by mining software, the computer data will reveal 100% CPU usage instantly after connecting to the web and, above all, when loading the page. Therefore, in the face of these new threats, Internet users must be twice as cautious not to fall into these schemes easily, as well as take precautions regarding the pages they visit and the content they download.
