Today, the creator of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, announced that among his aims for this new year is to study in-depth study of cryptography and cryptoccurrencies to apply them in their services and thus support the decentralization of the Internet.

This could be known through a recent publication that hung in his official Facebook account, in which he mentioned that every year he plans to learn new things and for this 2018 he intends to study the positive and negative aspects of these technologies, which he considers as important options against the centralization of the world and thus "empowering people".

He pointed out that encryption and cryptocurrencies represent "counter-trends" with respect to one of the most interesting topics today: centralization versus decentralization. But he noted that they imply greater difficulty in control. However, it wants to delve deeper into them to determine the best way to apply them in its services.

Zuckerberg said that in past decades, people around the world have seen new technologies as decentralizing forces, and he said he introduced himself to this ecosystem because he believed that people would be empowered (in Facebook's mission that ideal is in sight) rather than concentrated in a small group. However, he explained that with large technology companies and governments using innovative tools to monitor their citizens,"many people now believe that technology only centralizes power instead of decentralizing it.

Zuckerberg said that by 2018 he wants to protect the community from abuse, hatred and government interference, as well as to ensure that the time people spend on the platform is well spent. "We will not avoid every error or abuse, but we currently make too many mistakes to implement our policies and prevent misuse of our tools. If we succeed this year, we will finish 2018 on a much better track record," he said.

In order to achieve this, he has considered among his options the benefits of blockchain technology, a technology that sustains cryptocurrencies, which without a doubt is revolutionizing the traditional ways of carrying out human activities, crossing different sectors of society.

Last year it was also known that Facebook joined W3C, along with other technology giants such as Apple, Microsoft Corporation and Google in the development of a payment API that includes cards based on cryptocurrencies as a payment method. In addition, another important figure in the technological context, the co-founder of Apple, stated that bitcoin is better than gold as a deposit of value. Another supporter of bitcoin, and one of Facebook's biggest investors, was Peter Thiel. In the meantime, the market value of the cryptocurrencies surpassed Facebook's capitalization last December.
