Quantstamp Securing Smart Contracts - Holistic approach to Security
There has been lot of concerns that in-spite of using sound cryptographic techniques in the Ethereum Smart Contracts (and in the crypto-currency industry in general), they are failing to protect users, investors and other stakeholders in the echo system as they are lagging in applying Holistic Approach to Information Security. This is one of the major reasons why so many spam and fraudulent activities we do witness everyday in the crypto ICO industry. Especially when it comes to ICOs, most of them seems be joke when we think about Information Security.
Security by Design, Privacy by Default, Secure Software Development practices, Source Code Auditing, Vulnerability Scanning and testing before release to production are some of the well developed methodologies that are must be applied for any globally used IT Systems.
The fundamental and sound principles of Information Security needs to be applied to protect all the stakeholders in the ICO echo system considering all the aspects; including but not limited to:
- People (Awareness, Culture, Ethics)
- Processes (including Governance, Audit & Fraud Detection, Data Breach Notification process)
- Technology (including Vulnerability Scanning, OWASP, Pen Testing, Fraud Detection, Forensics)
- Environment
- Legislation (including Compliance, EU GDPR, EU-US Privacy Shield)
- Geo-Politics, Organization, etc.

Technology alone is useless, it is just one aspect, we can not build a secure service for mass adoption unless all aspects have been well thought. Quantstamp has taken the well needed step in the right direction!
