THE DAY THAT PAPA WAS BORN – DO YOU REMEMBER WHERE YOU WERE?

in #birthday8 years ago (edited)

Finally, I get to celebrate my first birthday on steemit!

Certain events seem to rock the entire world. Many people remember where they were on the days that these events occurred, and the day that @papa-pepper was born is no different.

Many people all around the world remember where they were, and what they were doing, the day that I was born.

For those of us who are younger Americans, we remember where we were when “9/11” happened. Personally, I was living on a big green school-bus at the time and happened to be in Wausau, WI. Once we found out about the twin towers, we stopped in at a relative’s house to watch the news.

Many older Americans remember where they were when JFK was assassinated.

My birthday is no different for many people who are older than I am.

If you were around then, what were you doing on December 8th, 1980?

You see, this was the day that John Lennon, of The Beatles fame, was murdered.

It was also the day that I was born.

Not a year later or after, the same day.

Since many remember certain events of that day because of his death, they also remember where they were and what they were doing when I was born.

Interestingly enough, another musician died that same day, years later.

For those who enjoy heavier music, you may have heard of a certain band called Pantera. The guitarist for Pantera, “Dimebag” Darrell also died on December 8th.

Though I have no idea what I did for my birthday that night, I remember a friend telling me that “Dimebag got shot last night” the next morning. My response was, “Yeah, and?” Then they told me he was killed. Though the two events can go hand in hand, getting shot is not always synonymous with dying, so that didn’t even register as a potential options when I first heard about Dimebag Darrell.

Though this may seem like an odd birthday post, I think that reflecting on death and eternity can make us appreciate and use our lives better.

Soon, I will be joining all of those people that I mentioned earlier in this post. I know that we don't all like to consider that fact, but it is true nonetheless. I even know of at least one steemian that has passed since I have joined, @kingarbinv. I'm glad that I at least got to "meet" him and encourage him still, but to die so young is still a tragedy.

Just got this Happy Birthday!

Glad to bring back a memory for you.

You looked old enough to remember where you were the day I was born.

I think I was twenty nine
. that year... I had just seperated from the USAF after ten years and was working in the oil patch.

Ah, 29... Those were the days.

I spent pretty much the whole decade driving family members(the old folk) back and forth to various hospitals...until they all died off. I was the driver...that's what I did...even then.
Some weren't so old..

Wow... I'm usually "the driver" too.
Even when I lived on the bus.

two years ago I went "cold turkey" I probably haven't driven 500 miles since then. Back when i was a trucker I drove that in a day.
I just got TIRED up putting up with stupid people on the highway.

Happy birthday, man! On December 8th, 1980 ... I wasn't even a thought that crossed my parents' minds :)

Lol!

Thanks, happy birthday to me!

Happy Birthday, after doing some math, I think I was likely sitting in a class in the 9th grade.

:)

Ahh, math class!

Thanks!

Happy birthday big @papa-pepper!

I wasnt in the making in 1980 ...but 2 years later ..Hell Yeah! I am fresh out of the oven!

Still, we are glad that you showed up, thanks!

hey people, papa is trying to convey this message: "use our lives better!" ... don't over focus on HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO PAPA!! ok!?

Very well said, and your amazing homemade pepper cake is a great example of an action that speaks louder than words.

If I wasn't so incredibly manly, I would cry... Thank you!

hmm... papa, I greeted with all my heart. but the photo is from internet. hope you know that?

Oh... Yeah, I suppose that you hardly have enough time from when you found out until when you replied...

Thanks for your honesty... I knew.😎

Happy 36th Birthday. What an interesting little bit of history for your day.

In 1980....hmmm....I was a young mom of a 4 1/2 years old - so long ago. Married for 6 years, stay at home mom working part time on the weekends in a Real Estate company.

Out of curiosity how did that young man die?

Heart attack at 31, I believe...

It's mean that you are his reincarnation ! haha !

Opinions vary...

Thanks @soushi888!

Happy Birthday @papa-pepper!

You were born and other musicians celebrated that each year by departing this earth! Wait, was that the lesson of this post? Cause that is what I seemed to have learned!

Out with old and in with the new?

No no no...

YES! Wait no...... I am confused.

Happy Birthday @papa-pepper! I'm super glad to know you and I look forward to know you even more!

Me too!

Thanks!
