tunnels, chutes, and trees have many physical functions in common. all three channel water, are gateways from one medium to the next, and eventually collapse. the first instance is immediately evident. the second may become more evident when the function shifts from water to air; like a para-"chute" safely lowering its passenger or the conversion of carbon dioxide to oxygen by photosynthesis. as the first two functions might compel any creature to utilize these devices, it is the last characteristic which ought most intrigue any intelligent soul ;who seeks to maximize the efficiency of energy. and it should be this reason why chutes should be solely employed.
chutes should only collapse upon success of their function. and the function of a chute is to fill a vacuum. and should that vacuum become occupied the chute should cease to function. for instance, a rocket utilizes a chute mechanism. and in the case of a rocket, the chute mechanism would catalyze combustion...
