Tipples Beer Review 80 - Moondog Brewing - Big truffle in little porter (Aust)

We spoken about Moondog before, the combine weird tastes, some work, some done. This one is a Salted Truffle Porter. It's somewhere around 9%, only comes in a big sharing bottle and it perfectly suited to cold nights (as it is winter downunder in Australia) and having with cheese.

The smell is very interesting, alcohol burn certainly but something else savoury, thankfully not truffles, wouldn't have said it was salt either, maybe it's all those things sticking together.

The mouthfeel is silky smooth and full bodied, the carbonation is non existent. It a strange balance of a beer, the sweetness of the malt is cancelled out by the saltiness of the salt leaving it without a stand out flavour, smooth yes, enjoyable definitely but with the promise of salted truffles this is a little underwhelming.

Oh well, it could have been worst I could have hated it, but I was really hoping this would be one of those Moondog Magical beers.
