Sublimely Peaceful and Invigorating Beautiful Sunday

Winter wonderful winter!

No wind, perfect weather, nothing beats Durban's Sunday outdoors, invitation to come join in exploring sights along the Amazimtoti River. Sardines have been running along the shoreline the beaches are full with the annual arrival of the Greatest Shoal on Earth With beaches being so busy we headed into the park once again.

Gliding along the river quietly a Yellow-billed duck with a Spur-winged goose keeping each other company, paddling in harmony enjoying the early sunlight creeping onto the water.

Spur-winged goose
Canon PowerShot SX730 HS _f_6.9 1/200 sec ISO-250 Focal length 172mm

Spur-winged goose we don't see that often, feeding on grains and grasses, is the largest member of the duck family occurring in Africa with wingspan of two meters, apparently they do migrate when local conditions become unsuitable. We have seen up to 20 birds together in another park we used to frequent, this has become too dangerous to visit, so sadly not one of our more local spots.

Yellow Blooms
Canon PowerShot SX730 HS _f_4 1/1000 sec ISO-160 Focal length 7mm

Yellow greets you along the bank with yellow flowers, not sure what plant this is growing to a meter or two in height along the river bank, it has pods of seed ripening to spread itself further afield, the warmth of the colour always invites one to stop and capture a photo.

Dandelines
Canon PowerShot SX730 HS _f_4 1/160 sec ISO-160 Focal length 4mm

Another fetish with most amateur photographers (like me), is trying ones hand at macro-photography with a Dandelion shedding it's seed far and wide after the dainty little yellow blooms have finished the circle of life.

Jet Streams
Canon PowerShot SX730 HS _f_6.9 1/200 sec ISO-80 Focal length 172mm

Contrails overhead pushing an aeroplane further, faster, glancing up watching people jetting off possibly down to Cape Town making another pretty sight to capture against the blue skies above.

Dark-capped bulbul
Canon PowerShot SX730 HS _f_6.9 1/160 sec ISO-800 Focal length 172mm

Sunday ritual is looking up and down, one never knows what you may miss, on upward glance the Dark-capped bulbul perched looking up, or was it down? Perhaps pontificating the aircraft, thinking I don't leave trails like that, just maybe thinking humans have to rely on copying what we do.

Sugarcane sunset

Winding down a great Sunday outdoors it never ended there with the sky taking a brilliant orange before the end of day, sweet, yes the sugarcane growing behind our wall made for another great round of photography, such a perfect day leaves one feeling sublimely invigorated and peaceful to face off a new week ahead.

Wow, absolutely amazing photographs. I really like this pictures.

Thanks for visiting and enjoying with a kind comment @tussar11

I lived among sugarcane fields when I was in Northern Thailand, @joanstewart. I loved watching the cycles of it.

Lovey photos as always, Joan. Your wildlife and nature is so unique and interesting to me.

Sugarcane fields are being ripped up for development sadly, we have had the pleasure of feeling like we lived on a farm for over thirty years, sad to see it go along with all the animals we had Sharon.

Thanks for the tips you are always sharing about places online helping everyone.

Sure looks like you had a very nice and indeed beautiful Sunday, what a lovely variety of photos :)

Have a great week ahead ;)

Glad you enjoyed this little area we are able to visit, each season something different arrives.

Wishing you a wonderful week over the pond!

Thats the wonder of nature and its a pity for those who do not take the time to note the changes that come with each season :)

I'm glad you still have this nice place to go to despite the other one being out of choice for now.

Always listen to the locals, the park got nick name of Murder Park, safest to go to places where you not vulnerable.

Nice photos!

Hope you enjoy your Sunday.

Greetings from Mexico.

A beautiful post Lady Joan.
Real serenity here!
Blessings!

I come alive in winter, hibernate in summer staying indoors under an air-conditioner, gorgeous time of the year Stephen.

I am still young enough to come alive in all seasons Lady Joan hahaha.
Some great news for you, we found a place to stay, almost at the last moment, or should I say in our last month here.
I am certainly going to miss this old huge garden, but life goes on.
Blessings!

Excellent to know you have found somewhere you can now call home without worrying about finding a place to rest your head.

Finding nature I am sure it will find you, being outdoors there is always something close. Yes a garden always makes a massive difference especially considering how old and established this one is that you have enjoyed.

These are beautiful snaps Joan! Particularly liked the orange glow of that sunset and grass picture, good luck in the contest!

Was it cold out?

Posted using Partiko Android

Thanks for enjoying the photo's Nicky, our cooler mornings in Durban about 10 deg C (avg 14 deg C), lows at midday around 20 deg C with normal average at about 24 deg C so very mild. We do not get frost but heavy dew during winter months to help sustain plant life which helps.

Hahaha that's your "cold"?? We don't get those as our "highs" very often in the UK 😂 but your summers must be baking... Just wondering when the best time would be to visit IF I were to make the journey down to SA 🙂

Cape Town have winter rains, Durban has summer rain, best time I would suggest is May/June hopefully you miss both. With weather it is a roll of the dice lately.

Great places to explore, hike, climb make sure to try using a properly organized group to travel with, you do need eyes in the back of your head in cities.

Beautiful park and photography. So much abundance of life in that area! I am mesmerized by your posts, Mother Nature is at her best in your neck of the woods @joanstewart. 😊

Always a lot of bird life down at the river, sometimes the area is not so pretty with human waste strewn in every direction, including the water full of plastic from inland.

Regular cleanups are arranged to try keep this area in pristine condition by local community for the sake of nature, and our own sanity @starjewel
