beautiful sunday — taking it to the streets

We had a phenomenal day today. The mister and I did a little day trip not too far from home. The temperature was mild, the sky blue and the sunshine sensational.

I tried my hand at street photography in the small town. We walked for hours as I tried to sneak a few photos. I was a little hesitant to say the least.

Some people shied away from me but I kept my camera steady pretending not to be interested in them but in the architecture. John was my wing man. If people looked uncomfortable I would nudge him and he'd know to start talking about what I was aiming at - not people, but the architecture. So awkward.

Here are a few that I've edited this evening. The colors today were stunning. Rainbow streamers were attached to every light post and the flowers lined a store window.

Many people use black and white edits for street photography. Which do you prefer in this photo. My first sneaky shot!

It was an ideal spring day,
a light blue sky,
flecked with little fleecy white clouds drifting across from west to east.
The sun was shining very brightly,
and yet there was an exhilarating nip in the air,
which set an edge to a man’s energy.

these photos captured the essence of the day - the banners and flowers are Easter-like and that's how the weather felt

Yes....very true. It was such a colorful day and I loved it. Thank you so much :)

I love your first sneaky shot!! That's exactly the type of composition that draws me in when I'm looking for street sketches: people going about their business in their 'natural environment'.

And of the two, I actually prefer the color because it really draws me in to the moment without any drama. I appreciate the black and white too -because it has the drama ☺

i agree. hehehehe pictures are the best when people are unaware... and i can just imagine @countrygirl nudging her hubby to get him talking about architecture hehehehehe

two nights ago... i was with my nephew (who i had been COUNTING down the days to see... and now the countdown begins again... sad)

We were celebrating his third birthday - all dressed in marvel shirts and masks.. hehehe so fun!

and when it was time for him to go to bed, i knew that I wouldnt see him for a while. I would leave early in the morning - before he woke.

I pulled him close as he sat on the chair, and I started whispering in his ear and making him giggle and kissing his cheek.... it was such a special moment and i was capturing it all in my mind, since I certainly wasn't about to take a selfie of it and ruin the moment hahaha

but...(and there are tears in my eyes now) my sister showed me about 5 minutes later... the picture on her phone. She had been watching us and captured the ABSOLUTE perfect moment. It was the epitome of how I was feeling, and how he was feeling... and i treasure that shot so much!!!! because it captured our hearts!

ohhhh i love pictures. and i love photographers that can pluck a moment from time and seal it away forever for me to enjoy and enjoy and enjoy!!! :)

i'm totally anonymous on here - but if there was one picture of myself that i'd be tempted to show... it would be this one :)

Thanks so much @enternamehere!! Such an encouraging comment from you - I very much appreciate it.

oh what a wonderful photo! :)
It has an aura of colorful and free!
I prefer black and white for the second photo :)
When I go out and photograph, I'm very afraid. The gaze of people makes me nervous. My husband is very comfortable in this regard. He does not care about anybody: D
I guess I need to be as relaxed as he is!

The colors are so pretty aren't they? I love the flowers in the store front.

It's tough aiming my camera at people - especially when children are around - it makes moms and dads very nervous - I don't blame them. I'm sure I'll get more comfortable as I go. Or I'll continue using my telephoto lens to sneak shots without being so nervous.

I've always found it awkward, too... There are lots of stories about it going wrong, too! There are some people that seem to do it professionally, somehow.

Nice composition with the lady walking. Was age taking out the afternoon tea refuse?

No, she was just walking by when I was aiming to shoot the tea room....and I thot what a great juxtaposition with the bag and the tea room. I'm not sure what she was carrying but I did think belongings.

Thanks @fotosdenada.

I love your second photo with the colorful flowers. As about the street photos, sometimes b&w is better, especially when it comes to architecture and details but in your case I like the first one better than the b&w. I can't explain why, it just looks better.

I loved these colors too and thot of all my artist friends when I snapped it. Such happy color. Thanks for your thoughtful comment @erikah...I always enjoy them.

The pleasure is all mine :)

It was a good day in Ontario for walking. Spoke with my brother today after he and his family came back from a walk in the woods. Black and white always give a timeless look but I like the colour too. Depends on my mood. I'd think that the town was getting ready for Easter with the rainbow streamers and the flowers in the window sills.

I think so too @cecicastor - Easter is just around the corner. :) It was beautiful here today and I am very glad we got out and went to this town - it was Dundas we were at. It's changed so much and has a very family oriented feel to it. People were very friendly and the stores were charming - quite a number of cafes and boutiques. I got so many photos of every thing. Can't wait to edit and post them.

Good thing you have a wingman. If I take photos on the street I have to be really careful. Most of the time I don't take photos at all.
I prefer the black and white. It gives mystery to what she has in her bag that she is having for afternoon tea :)

hehe...yes....he did a great wingman job for a first timer. She walked past the tea room which is why I thot the photo interesting....I actually wanted to take her in there bc she looked a bit lonely. I wish I was quick enough to catch her face.

Quick thinking. Taking street photography needs the skill to predict what could happen next, which I still have to perfect.

Still not that sneaky. The sneaky ones will allow me to see the face:-)

I'll have to get sneakier....maybe the people around here are too suspicious....I did get some faces, altho a little blurred....practice will make close to good.
