Oilfield work - North Dakota Bakken
If you look up oilfield work in North Dakota as of May 2018 you're likely to find a mix of very old news or articles that really concern stake holders in oil companies. Here's some straightforward information on what's going on in the Bakken.
For one thing, housing is not a problem right now. There's plenty of housing to go around and it's really a renter's market. You'd be hard pressed to find man camps, though. They've been outlawed in most big oil producing counties to boost occupancy in apartment complexes and town homes which remain mostly vacant today.
If you're looking for security, you're better off working in production. This means jobs like driving big rigs hauling oil and production water are good if you're looking for year-round work in one area. Drilling jobs burn hot, and there's not much drilling going on. That could change this year as I've been seeing drilling rigs move around in areas between New Town and Williston.
Since a lot of people have moved on since the boom, the demand for workers right now is increasing. So if you're looking for good experience and upward mobility, then it's prime time. Also, if you're a truck driver then there are PLENTY of jobs for you. Hauling production water pays really well. No HAZMAT endorsement needed. Way more than you would make at most any CDL jobs. This is true even in a bust cycle.
Thanks for reading. I'm not a recruiter or anything. I'm just a guy working in the Bakken that has seen people move out here needlessly hauling giant expensive campers in the past year. Rent is much cheaper than what it used to be and work is plenty.
