This is an entry for #aswcontest with theme On Assignment!, round № 8 of the "abandoned shit" photography contest by @customnature.

During a break in rain showers, for this "abandoned shit" assignment I went back to the Box Canyon trail just outside Mount Shasta; an interesting location with a small car graveyard. Cars were dropped into this canyon somewhere in the mid of last century, and the location has since then be overtaken by nature, overgrown with trees. The hill goes up to the top-left of the image, so cars used to roll down from there, but now trees have blocked all access from above. Aside from cars there are also some household appliances like washing machines to be found.

This photo was taken with my smartphone, but I also took some photos with my Nikon camera which I'll likely post later.

Here are a few other smartphone photos from that same location, taken on the same day, as possible submissions for this contest (but I choose the one featured above):

Trivia Note: in the first photo in the series of three above, I hold a different card than in the others. That was a white card, but it turned out to be challenging to photograph in the other darker locations, so I had to use a grey cardboard card for those other photos... ;)

That is some weird, but fascinating stuff out there... How many of these cars/appliances do you think are lying around there?

Right along the trail there are probably a dozen or so cars, but there are more if you climb up and down the hill. My guess is that there are maybe two dozen cars in total. Some of them are cut in pieces, which suggests that people in previous times scavenged them for parts. I haven't seen any engines, so they were probably removed before the cars were pushed down the hill. There are probably a dozen or so appliances as well. That's more difficult to estimate because several are buried halfway in the hill, or rolled further down most likely.

Cool, thanks :)
Still... weird...

I'd really like to see this one a bit larger:

Here's the original large version - unfortunately it's somewhat blurry: my smartphone doesn't have a very good camera (that's my excuse for shaky hands anyway):

I also took photos with my DSLR but still need to process them. One was taken from this same viewpoint. I hope to post a small series later, probably Monday.
