NEW Theme! Abandoned Shit Weekly Contest - №.13 - 'Stairs!' #aswcontest

in aswcontest •  2 years ago

Another week of cool abandoned stuff is kicking off on Steemit! We have a brand new theme and I can not wait to see what you guys come up with!

The Contest:

This is NOT a photography contest. The subject matter is what's being judged with the Abandoned Shit Weekly contest, not one's skills with a camera. Honestly, I just want to see some cool abandoned shit. lol HOWEVER, as with any photograph, the "wow factor" can certainly be enhanced with a technically sound execution. Simply put, winners won't be chosen strictly on artistry.

The Prizes:

1st Place = 10.000 SBD
2nd Place = 5.000 SBD
3rd Place = 2.500 SBD

The Theme:

This week's theme = STAIRS! Your photo must be of the stairs or staircase of an abandoned structure. This theme is another specific one, but it hasn't slowed you guys down before! Big grand staircases, or just a coupled of steps on the front of a collapsed porch, it's all fair game. Ideally, the stairs should sorta be the main focus of the pic.

The Rules:

Rule #1 = Your abandoned shit photo must be posted using the tag #aswcontest for one of your tags. This is crucial so that your entry can be seen/found!
Rule #2 = Your photo must be taken by YOU. If you take an imagine from the internet and use it as your entry into this contest, you will be disqualified and I will flag you.

Rule #3 = Only ONE entry per user, per week. Save some content for future contests!

Rule #4 = Tell us what we're looking at! You don't have to write a novel, but let us know what the picture is of, and where you found it. That's the most interesting part! Equipment and camera settings can be included at your discretion, but is not necessary.

Rule #5 = Stick to the weekly theme!.

The Time:

When = New ASW contests will start on TUESDAYS and will end at 11:58pm EST on SUNDAY. Winners will be announced on Monday with awards distributed then as well. I figure it's a good way to start the week!

HELP! - I'd really like this contest to become an established, weekly feature. Resteeming the official contest announcement post here would be a huge help in getting the word out, though you do not HAVE to in order to participate in the contest. I'm just asking as a favor. Also, just mentioning the contest in/on your entry post would help a lot!

That's it! Let's see some cool abandoned stuff! Good Luck!

^^^Here's the photo I used for the contest logo above. It was taken in the Azores inside an abandoned 5-star hotel we found on a mountaintop. In it's prime, I bet this spiral staircase was just beautiful.

Yup! I see stairs...

Thanks, I will take part

Already have a spot in mind :-)

Very interesting theme. I'll try to find something but I'm not making any promises. This one is going to be difficult. Eh eh.

I hope you do find something! I'm sorta testing the limits of how specific I can get. Haha

Hi guys, here I left my participation

This is the staircase that is behind what was the altar of the small church of Corazón de Jesús cemetery in Maracaibo Venezuela, abandoned until I could not, I did not dare to approach because there were bats hanging !!
Thanks customnature, I hope you like my humble photo

good spinning staircase @raizapenamcbo

Damn, I was just getting ready to make a post of the most famous stairs in cinematic history and realized they aren't abandoned. On to plan B

I also want to follow the contest, incidentally still left a photo a few months ago, following photos and links

Hehe Scary !! thanks for telling me, I never imagined the sightings of my photo. The art of seeing photos, you are steady :))

I do not see stairs in the photo?

It is a fallen coconut tree struck by lightning.

It's interesting, but the theme this week is "stairs" so the photo should be steps or stair cases of abandoned places.

Thanks for explaining it, and I will try to find a theme about the ladder.

Tangganya lagi dibuat ya? @dewaled507 Bek Bak U Tutong Neu Upload :))

A forgotten staircase in an abandoned train station... This photo was taken in an old abandoned train station, El Encanto Station, in the mountains of Los Teques, a city near Caracas. It was one of the stations of El Gran Ferrocarril de Venezuela, the Great Railway of Venezuela or Ferrocarril Alemán, German Railway, whose rails covered the route from Caracas to Valencia. It was inaugurated in 1894 and worked until 1966. These stairs go down to what was a beautiful park where families came to walk, have picnic and bathe in the many wells and waterfalls. In the photo, my nephew Diego looks at his dad doing canyoning.
Greetings from Venezuela... Would you follow me at It's will be a pleasure follow you..

Excellent idea of the contest!
I will join you.!

Here's my photo. This is the one I'm submitting. Just want to clarify because it's hidden among many photos in the blog itself. I meant to post the one photo and ended up writing a whole travel piece on Alcatraz. So thank you for the inspiration! ;)

The photo I'm submitting to you is a lovely section of overgrown stairs on the outside of the old Social Hall, which was burned down in the 70's. The structure still stands and has a lovely addition of ivy running throughout.

Cool my friend

My enty
post here

What is abandoned here?

Oops! Sorry, my mistake. Will change. Ok?

No problem!

Should I change my post or would be enough to change comment?

I'd change your post. Posts with the #aswcontest tag are what I look at on judging day!

Here my entry. I shot this recently in my home county of Magoffin. This is still the best contest on Steemit for what I've seen. Looking forward to next week.

Here's my entry...

This photo was taken in an old abandoned home in Victoria, Australia. The stairs leading down went to a cellar like area below ground level. The set of stairs in front went to a couple of bedrooms off a thin hall. These stairs were close to what I would called the "kitchen quarters" and I think they would have been used by servants etc as they were very narrow unlike the other staircase in the house. I think the bedrooms above were possibly the servants staying quarters.

Esas escaleras no están abandonadas, en abandono total está Venezuela por culpa de la desidia del dueño de esos ojos.

Wowowo..amazing photography..and nice post..thanks for share..dear @customnature

I have a hard time seeing this as anything other than spam and am flagging it as such.

♪♫♪ That's the way I like it ♫♪♫

By continuing the discussion, I'm just feeding into the spam bullshit that I flagged it for in the first place. I don't like cluttering up ANYONE's blog (especially my own) with chatter that has nothing to do with the blog itself. It appears you're new here. Unfortunately, the only way to guarantee a post gets noticed is to use bidbots (unless your a whale). I don't like that fact any more than the next guy, but that's life on steemit until they change something. I run a contest that has brought hundreds of posts about awesome abandoned stuff to the platform. I want as many people to participate as possible, so I have to use bidbots so the contest receives as much visibility as possible. The contest is the only thing I use them for, aside from occasionally using them on other people's posts that I feel are very good or undervalued. I have to shell out money for the bidbots and I have to shell out money to the contest winners each week.
Don't act all high and mighty and accuse me of things being beneath me. We have different opinions on something and I'm fine with leaving it at that. You're the asshole who that came to MY page talking shit and calling me spineless in the first place. Is that the type of person you would want to 'indulge' anything to?

If I may, have you done a comparison where you did not use the bid bot just to see? Is anyone landing on your post from viewing the trending feed? Or do you think people already follow you and/or come through alternative contest lists?

(Sorry to extend the mass, but as long as it's down at the bottom of the blog, seems okay)

Hmm interestingly, it looks like they got rid of the little eyeball view counter. But yeah, the comparison is telling. My normal, everyday posts would get around 30 views. The first time I shelled out a decent amount of money to bid it up and get it into trending, that post received 1,100+ views. People do land on posts from the trending feed... but the only way to get to the trending feed is to have a high value post, which is accomplished almost exclusively through bid bots if you're not a whale.

Oh I read about that, they were concerned it wasn't accurate anyway, but that comparison is staggering. You'd think they'd implement some rudimentary analytics for bloggers though, because that would be immensely useful. (I hear tracking pixels get cached, so those don't work).

Yeah, I've been crawling through these transparency bot to see the various use cases. I really hope there is something to address the promotion issue soon, because the bid bot solution is highly inefficient in giving a lot to bot delegators and making the payout number on posts meaningless :(

The only err I see is the continued trolling when I didn't want a discoussion and/or debate in the first place.
