Finding Stars and Constellations: Scorpius

In order to find the constellation of Scorpius, the best thing to do is locate the star Antares (alpha scorpii). Antares is like the heart of the scorpion, to the right you will see the claw and to the left, the tail. The key is to look south at a high altitude, early at night in a the summer sky.

Antares is a red supergiant, its name means the rival of Mars because of its red color. Its radius is 680 times that of the Sun and it is located 550 light years from Earth
