Understanding Ourselves Through Astrological Archetypes; Taurus the Sensual Bull

in #astrology6 years ago

Welcome! We will explore the sensual and earthy archetype of Taurus the Bull in this post and become more familiar with the steady solidity of the bull that we may indeed need in our lives.

It is to the stars that human beings look up to in wonder, the most wildly unknown realm of them all. Like the wild forests and dangerous oceans our race has seen the divine in the heavens above us. The constellations are a collection of stories and a reflection of our human nature, a mirror to which we can look back at our inner selves and collective communities for insights, omens and glimpses of our true nature.

Taurus is the second sign of the Zodiac, as we move forwards from feisty Aries, following the wheel of the year.

Aries is the seed that pushes through the dark soil and into the light, and Taurus is the earth and nourishment that allows the small and delicate seedling to grow tall! Taurus is the sign of the mother goddesses of ancient past, attuned to the beauty and rhythms of nature, and resilient and steadfast as a forest. Taurus, like a new seedling, likes to set out roots and stay firmly in place. Their roots spread and anchor them against wind well searching for water and nutrients for growth.

This is how Taurus operates and manifests in our world. A slow and steady provider with a deep connection to the earth. They are unwavering (for both good and bad) and they strive to provide. The symbol of Taurus is also largely related to agriculture, security and perseverance: the Bull.

The Bull is a stubborn beast, and an important one. For many ancient societies and even into the present day, cows are a very important source of meat and dairy, and the Bull is integral to the abundance and survival of cows and therefore people. I personally have not met any real Bulls, but I have heard stories and I know a few Taurus natives. Both are stubborn and will dig their heels in and not budge, and both cannot be stopped when they have a goal in mind or loved ones to protect. If you have an angry Bull after you, watch the fuck out! I don’t know if it applies to real Bulls but a Taurus will not forget wrong doings, or favors, and knows how to hold a grudge!

Taurus wants to find somewhere to settle, grow roots, relax and find beauty. Interestingly enough, the astrological age of Taurus ( 4000B.C-1800B.C ) also saw the rise of cities and civilizations, and more often than not, mother goddess worshiping religions.

The fact that Taurus and cities go along together is not surprising, because it is in the bulls nature to want to settle down. Nomadic life is more comfortable for Gemini, the previous age (the ages go backwards, yes, check out this article for more info!). The energy of Taurus is earthy and motherly, and people began to focus on agriculture and worship mother goddesses during this time period. Their societies were most likely matriarchal as well, with inheritance passed down through women and the earth often seen as a mother, the giver of all life!

Sensuality and abundance were prominent, with the rise of the most ancient of female arts (that of sex!) and business. Taurus enjoys wealth and money after all, as well as sex and sensuality. The polar opposite of Taurus, Scorpio is the ruler of sex, death, power and rebirth. As with everything, opposites mingle.

Inheritance became important for this time period because in Taurus fashion, people became concerned about their own possessions. My land, my house, my farm, my family and especially my self worth took center stage in society and in peoples minds. The age of tribal ownership waned and people began thinking more individually and about their own possessions. In Aries, the idea of being an individual is born, and in Taurus, it is built upon. The age of  Taurus was a time of abundance, deep connection with the earth and the security it provided, and generally was a time of peace and steady development for much of the world (of course, with many exceptions. The Scorpion opposite was also felt). Civilizations began to seriously grow and come in to their own power.

They also came to find their aesthetic and creative niche, and beauty was paramount. In our contemporary world, beauty, pleasure, sex and aesthetic appeal still hold strong grips on humanity. In astrology Venus, or Aphrodite, is the ruler of Taurus (along with Libra) and this gives Taurus a true love of passion and beauty. I feel like Venus is an echo of the powerful feminine goddesses of the age of Taurus, celebrated by the Greeks and Romans as the goddess of beauty and fertility, love and sex.

Lisa Michaels explains how Venus, the goddess of beauty, shines through Taurus (she is the ruler of the sign of the Bull) and creates a desire for beauty, pleasure and wealth.

“Taurus teaches us the value of enjoying the earthly pleasures. It delights in all that looks beautiful, tastes delicious and feels pleasurable. It loves receiving all the exquisite things and gratifications that the physical realm has to offer.
It knows how to take solid steps to fulfill its desires for possessions, wealth and security.” ~ Lisa Michaels (lisa_michaels.com)

When I think Taurus, I think good hearty food, red wine and sensual sex. I think of those friends who are stubborn loyal. I think of collectors, competitive food eaters, even those addicted to sex! I think about those people who know whose houses are lavishly and tastefully decorated, no expense spared for beauty (this may take on a very natural feel though!). Taurus is indeed the sensual bull. On a spiritual level, the quest of Taurus could be turning all those material comforts into spiritual illumination, realizing the true beauty of life lies behind the material curtain, learning how to truly appreciate the magic in the mundane.

The Bull will probably also have to learn to let go of things that have past their due. This could be relationships, nick nacks, items of any sort, or even ideas and ways of thinking. The Taurus Bull is sentimental about such things, they find comfort and security here. Maybe you find this energy in your life and need to go on a quest to learn how to let go and move on! Like all things, there could be extreme negatives to go along with the positives. The Taurus archetype could be very loving, sensual, passionate, loyal and committed. They could also be cold to their loved ones (probably because they feel very comfortable) or clingy, they could be possessive and jealous as well.

On the other hand, this all could turn out really well for having a family. Once you learn to work with Taurus energy it loves to provide for people and is especially loyal to family members. You could say Taurus is The Provider archetype. They have a natural mothering instinct, no matter the gender, and enjoy providing security and comfort for others as much as for themselves!

One thing is for certain, if it is what the Bull chooses to do, that is what is doing, no questions! If they set about a task it damn well is getting done, whether that is plowing the fields to provide for the family or watching tv all day long and enjoying copious amounts of wine and food. Just don’t try to tell the Bull what they should be doing, because it won’t work and they might refuse just because you asked. That is something those with a lot of Taurus energy need to work on, being more pliable and not reacting with stubbornness and horns at requests. They sure can be easy going (as long as you don't piss them off) and peaceful, but they also can get really stagnant in their life and fear change. They also may have a tendency to overindulge in physical sensations, but who doesn't sometimes? It is natural for all people to feel a little of each archetype, and Taurus definitely isn't the only sign that likes to go over the top, oh no!

There is deep earthy wisdom in the sign of the Bull, sweet sensual Taurus. It is wisdom we can all connect to, and one that might sorely be needed in this world of impatience and disregard for nature. So, take a breath, let your bare feet sink deep into the soil and imagine you are a tree many hundreds of years old. I imagine that is the sort of tranquility and stability that Taurus feels.

"Taurus teaches that the things we give away are the ones we really keep, knowing the wisdom of being here now in the timeless moment. For Taurus, the body is the temple. " (Astrologyclub)

Do you feel like you know the archetype of Taurus better now my friends? Has the earthy and resourceful bull come into your life recently, in the shape of a real animal, a friend with the zodiac sign, or personal revelations? I for one resonate with the patience needed to grow a long term project like an orchard, and the stubbornness of a fixed sign in their goals; even though I have no Taurus in my chart.

Thank you for joining me on a journey to understand ourselves through the archetypes of the Zodiac! I enjoyed furthering my understanding of such things and sharing it will my internet-friends!

Thanks. Interesting as I am a Taurus. ;-)

Do you find it relatable, any of the points? Id love some feedback heh, for research!

Yes many of the points fit for me. However, wealth accumulation is not one of them for me. I am into having more simplicity in my life and I tend to be quite frugal overall. Still yes, I do enjoy a sense of security and although I enjoy traveling I need to have roots too.
