At last I saw something emerge from the undergrowth. It walked on four legs and seemed to have some fur. Some moonlight was caught in it and briefly revealed its outline. It seemed to be a small mammal; quite harmless indeed! It made its way towards the waters and upon arrival smelled it and gradually entered it. Only its small tail was visible before it finally receded into the cooling depths......

This time it was not a sound which awoke me, but light itself. I blinked and saw how the world around me was getting brighter. Soft and cool colors began to fade into this place and started to paint a more colorful picture. I made out some trees growing quietly near the waters. Their selves had been secluded by darkness only some hours ago, but now with the dim light they became more vibrant and pronounced. They were willow trees; their long leaves hanging almost lifeless from their thin but strong branches. Some even touched the waters and seemed to enjoy its coolness.

The water itself also became more vibrant with violets and blues and greens. It was an interplay with darker and lighter colors which was balanced beautifully at this hour of day with the slow appearance of the almighty sun. But for now the hills still held him away; at least for a while longer they brought life into the night.

It is curious how the flowers of the water lilies just sit on the surface. So beautiful and so fragile they withstand the elements and shine like stars on a cloudless night on the rippling stillness. Sometimes I could make out a water walker on the surface. The ripples which it cast spread out peacefully in joyful circles, intermingling with other waves which they occasionally encountered. But mostly it was still silent. The world was still sleeping.
