"Passing the point of Remission" Original artwork

in #art6 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemit

Finally, I finished this painting, it was a long, long road. I've spent a lot of time on that piece, 92 hours to be exact. Maybe half of it I've spent just by staring at the monitor, thinking how I can make this better. It was an insanely cool experience, especially when I've got it done this morning. I was starting to think that I will never manage to finish it. But here it is. I can barely stay in one place right now. It's my first fully colored work. Not colored by hand but... the colors are there so...

This piece started as a not so simple sketch inspired by my lifestyle not so long ago... The whole story about it was-
A long time ago I was talking with a friend of mine, we were awake for more than 20 hours. All the coffee and the smokes that you can imagine that human can consume... Well, we were really high above that on the scale. And then something weird happened. We tunneled. I felt like I could go like that for days. I felt the remission for the first time then. My friend told me that he is feeling the same way even before I spokе about it. We managed to finish the project long before the deadline, even managed to play some video games before I fell asleep on the chair. We called that condition- a remission.

The reason why it took me so long to finish this piece was the fact that I started rendering without planing. I had my initial sketch. Without any idea what the background and the surroundings should look like, I knew 1 thing only- there should be monitors. And I placed 2 of them. I was looking for a way to come up with a background, I was checking pictures from laboratories, factories, heavy duty machines. and... Cables. I wanted something steampunky like with a pinch of a modern taste. In the end, I've ended up with what you see now.

Here are some details:

I've been streaming the last hours of the rendering process on Dlive if you guys wish, you can check out my workflow there, Here are the links from it-

Part -1; Part -2; Part -3; Part -4

Streaming your workflow is something really good, at least for me. When you know that someone is watching you, you do not allow yourself to get distracted, you always try to stay on the topic of the stream... To work. It's like working in a hangout, you interact with people, get and give ideas. And grow as an artist easier. Especially if you get to talk to someone better than you, In the matter of streaming or in art. I recommend it to anyone that does something creative. I mean you are doing your stuff with or without it, but the fact that you're on camera and people see your workflow and stuff increases your efficeincy

If i find some free time soon i will do a time-laplse video of the process.

Here is my initial sketch done with red ballpoint pen and a pencil

A friend of mine told me about an anomaly that you can see mainly in photography, that is called chromatic aberration effect. Since I had 5 light sources I wanted to recreate that effect on the canvas, after 2 hours of trial and error I quit. It's a thing that most photographers avoid bit I was thinking that it would be really cool if I manage to do it.

I would like to say thanks to @anthonyj! He helped me with setting up the settings on OBS studio. Without him probably i would still be wondering around trying to figure out what are the best settings for streaming in Dlive. Check out his stuff, He is a pretty cool guy!

Tools used: Photoshop cc2018 and Wacom Intuos pen small

Woow this is very sick! You must have so much patiënt to get it done. I could believe you clear your mind when painting or sketching. Looks very cool and such detail :p

Thank you! Hard to say that i have clear mind or a man with patience, i just like doing stuff like that. More like the other way around, But i love it!

That is a very cool picture, so many layers and levels to it, and visually its quite intriguing. :D I love that you included the pictures from the different stages of its creation in this post. :D Thanks for sharing. :D
God bless you. :D Have an awesome day! :D

Thanks! Yeah! I always take plenty of pictures when i get stuff done on paper, the problem is when i get it digitally and i forget my head somewhere in the washing mashine. However, I am really happy that you like my work

You're welcome! :D I too forget to take pictures of things, all the time, or I take really blurry ones that I can't use, but I get lucky to find a few good ones among the hundreds I take each day, thankfully. :D I wonder if I leave my head somewhere in the washing machine or it just runs away screaming, LOL. :D
You really are very talented. I look forward to checking out more of your work in the future. :D
God bless you. :D Have an awesome day my friend! :D

Heh, thank you!
I don't think that i have talent. I'm just doing my thing, practicing and trying new things. That's all :)

You're welcome. :D
Speaking as a woman that can't draw a straight line, even with a ruler, you are very talented. :D You keep practicing and trying new things and we'll all enjoy them. :D
God bless you. :D Have an awesome day my friend! :D

You can learn really fast, i mean for a year you can get most of the fundamentals at hand. You have youtube, tons of forums and stuff. If you have the time and the desire to do it, why not. Persistence is the key :P

That is true, although I've tried to learn to draw for decades, on and off, and I've gotten really good at drawing a couple of things, others I just don't seem to grasp, but at least I have those couple of things I can draw really nice. :D
God bless you. :D Have an awesome day my friend! :D

What kind of things? :D
Thank you!!

What can I say except WELL DONE, Dragu! ^.^
Truly remarkable piece of art!

Thanks!!! I am so pumped for the next one :D And i'm so happy that i pulled the things with the coloring :D

That's great, Dragu! Can you share what will your next project be? ^.^

You'll see :P :D

Yay! Congrats on finishing your piece! I think it has turned out awesome! It's interesting how it manifested from that experience you had. The details are super nice - 92 hours? Wow, no wonder. I get impatient after 15 hours or so. At that point, I either call it done or abandon it. Bad me, I know. Anyways, that red ballpoint pen sketch is also awesome. I like how the cigarette has evolved from the first sketch concept.

OBS studio is awesome. I used to stream then went on a vacation and sorta lost the flow with it. XD I'm glad you got it to work.

Chromatic aberration effect is also awesome, just be careful and not overdo it. In my opinion, that's one of the newbie's mistakes I see in the art world.

Congrats again! 👍

Oh yeah! 92 hours is a ton of time. But after i saw artworks stretched in 20 years i was... Wtf mate! Take your time! Do it the best way you can! It's a personal work, you have no deadline... :D
Streamlabs OBS is better, it has more features, but i've got mine on settings for streaming on twitch. And i'm too lazy to adjust it for Dlive. Streamlabs OBS takes fewer resources for a better result. and also has some cool stuff in it.
I fight every day with this overdoing it's not a thing to be underestimated :D

Yup, I went to Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam two times, let's say I want to go back again and again. The details and everything the classical masters managed to pull off from working on it for so long is totally mindboggling! I just gotta figure out how to be in zen with my impatience and do it. XD Lol, overdoing is something we, as artists, have to be sure to keep it under control. XD

Oh wow, I didn't know about Streamlabs OBS, it's definitely new. Okay, you know what, I think I've been away from streaming world a little too long. XD It has everything I was missing from Studio OBS. Gotta give it a try. Thanks man! <3

No problem :D You're welcome!

great work! I don't count my hours, simply because I leave stuff sitting around unfinished and just tinker around with it from time to time; except maybe smaller pieces, but I got unfinished large stuff sitting for years sometimes.
btw: I do just about everything without planning - that is the fun of painting, a trip into the unknown!

Thank you! It means a lot from a man like you!
I started counting how much time is spend on working on my stuff cause I'm recording my when working digitally. If I remember to After I watch it, to figure out if I can do something faster the next time.
How much I love that word... Tinkering, yeah! I tinker around my stuff all the time. Sometimes when I look at my old sketches that I'm thinking are craI i see great concepts that i could not see back when i was working on them and i end up redoing them.
The dude that showed me how to use photoshop showed me the two main methods for writing and drawing. The first is called the method of the architect- Planning everything before you start writing or painting changes the pipeline. The second is the method of the gardener- start working from scratch and following the flow. All my life I was doing the gardener method. I want to try to do the method of the architect. It's less chaotic and you can rethink the concept that you're going for... Maybe it will be boring... I don't know. :D Going to apply it on my next work.
Thank you for the resteem!

I love Chaos - it is the spiritual thing to eventually bring order to chaos, so I always start chaotic - making marks, because a empty space is to me horrendous: Horror Vacui
I don't want to turn a comment section about your painting into a self-promotion, so this is just for you: I even named one of my sporadic charcoal drawings Horror Vacui - except this one is really chaotic!
About clocking time: ages ago my ex once clocked me on a painting, about 18x24 inches, and it added up to 92 hours. She did this just to prove that I was neglecting her, lol!

I have that fear too! It's a strange thing... Now I know how to define it. The thing that I'm Planning is a bit similar to what you showed, a bit more realism related...surreal i think. My camera is not around but here is an image to give you an idea where i'm going image.png
The plan is to get the whole canvas covered with 3 figures like the one on the picture all expressing different things...
18x24 inches... That's a large piece! She has no idea what is going on in your mind... :D + 1 reason to be an Ex... I have a similar problem with my friends. They call me all the time to go out... And when i finally do, we spend like... 30 minutes talking about why I avoid them... You know my pain :D

I incorporate more and more "tricks" into my work to shorten the time I spend on it, to make time for social interactions. But once my nose is to the grindstone, there is no stopping or interrupting me.

The grindstone is a true love! The tricks are like weapons the more, the better! I'm trying to limit my social interactions cause once i go out... :D i'm not coming home for a long time :D

I admire your work! Great job!

It’s all great work. I rather like the monochrome red image.

Thanks! Yeah i find the monochromatic images pretty... Expressive, you can get into the shapes, without getting distracted by color and stuff

This is a result of passion and hard work. More than just talent.

That's what i'm all about! I hope it's enough tho :D

Well done on finally finishing this. After 92 hours, it must feel like a great achievement. I like both the finished art and the initial red pen sketch, maybe the sketch a little bit more. The red lines speak emotions to me.

Um Yeah, pen drawings bring some different feeling to it, you have to touch everything it's more complex. The digital on the other hand... I just love it, so much possibilities it's insane :D

It looks a lot better now! :D

Yeah! Exactly my thoughts :D
