Down But Not Out!
Selfie Painting Update
The Flu Caught Me But Couldn't Hold Me
Update On The Zebra Finch Chicks
I will be adding shadows and some wrinkles to this painting. I made my hair gray because someone posted an old car on my last selfie portrait post. I'm adding wrinkles and gray hair, so there! I will be making the bridge of my nose more prominent, that's all done with shadows, give a little sag to my upper eyes and around my mouth. I will gray out the green in my eyes a little bit. I have hazel eyes, depending on my mood my eyes will look gray, green, or blue. I will give a yellowish shade to my teeth. Old people's teeth are not naturally white, especially if they drink tea like I do! Right now this looks nothing like me but by tonight I will add character to this face.
I've been taking care of my family this past week and thought the flu passed me by. After everyone was on the mend and back to school or work, I was laid low yesterday. I slept the whole day through! Now I understand why I was having problems holding my hand steady Wednesday morning. Finally I gave up and went to bed. This morning I woke up fit as a fiddle...hahaha, I win!
I was going kinda slow and now I know why so I was planning on having the first layers of color down by yesterday but I am finishing up today. The reason I want to have all my colors down is because I have to write an article on the History of Vaccines tomorrow and I may write a second one on Saturday. ... Painting is a lot more fun and I am not looking forward to writing. But on the bright side at least I am not sick and writing about something that depresses me.
I will be going over the bright colors and cooling them down a bit. The circles in the background will be turned into translucent bubbles. I rub off the paint to the white paper, it is an easy way to make things look translucent with watercolor on mixed media paper. Mixed media paper isn't as absorbent as watercolor paper so color is easy to scrub off and move around.
They Are So Ugly They Are Cute!

The chicks are getting pin feathers and their eyes are open. They are eating one large boiled and mashed chicken egg every other day.
That's what I give their parents to eat along with their traditional seeds, which they then feed to their chicks.
In an age when the industrial revolution was making mass-produced goods available, it also seemed to be increasingly making them ugly and diminishing the role of the artist/craftsman in society. Art Nouveau was a revolt against this ugliness and there is a strong social component to the work that we no longer see.

this is so cool.
Thank you @killerkuasha, this is a fun piece to work on!
wow....nice post, very good work.thanks for sharing
It's fun to share, thank you @pariza.
Hi red how are you? time without pass here hehehehe but as always fun and entertainment post that animals are penguins?
Not penguins...lolol little baby Zebra Finches from Australia. I'm doing fine and I hope you and your family are doing well too!
jajaja zebra finches almost the same. What happend with your SP red?
Delegation to projects so people would stop begging me for votes...look at my commentors my friends stay, other’s are fare weather friends :p
Smart words red.
(hugs) to my young friend and I hope your mother is doing well. I will be getting most of my SP back in a couple days. I found a new project I want to delegate to and I will keep most of my sp for curation. I needed a little break. Curation and managing my sp is no fun ....
my account is tiny compared to many, but using it wisely when I am not so wise in business or curation weighs heavy on my mind. I think I will start going to talk with people on the P.A.L network and learn from some pros on how to curate and be more socially active.
I like to just paint, read, and chat with people that come and read my little articles. I know I have to step up and become more active because I've been on STeemit for a long time now and I can help many new people.
Thanks for your hopes red i like how you are and what you share, no worries we are growing as community and we have to be succesful as family because for me steemit is most that just a social platform. Regards and support for your projects and ideas
Looking great! Those base layers of watercolor look really smooth, nicely done! Looking forward to seeing it develop!
The base layers turned out pretty bright, I blame it on the flu...lololol. Thanks @allstarrunner!
that hadn't even crossed my mind, until you said it lol, but even so it doesn't look bad. You might be able to go over it with a more neutral color to tone it down if you really wanted. All in all I still think it's shaping up nicely to look like the one you are referencing!
I may keep the brilliant colors, it's hard to match colors on a computer using pen and watercolor, thank you for your support @allstarrunner!
If it matters, I like the brighter colors. It may not be authentic to the original genre but it is beautiful. Make it your own!
Mucha's women generally look distant and aloof. Yours looks alive and vibrant but the wonderful styling remains.
The portrait came out real good. And for what more you say is going to be added, going to be even better.
I must have missed a post on your baby chicks. What are they?
Thank you @manorvillemike, the babies are Zebra Finches, I should of added a link to my introduction post!
I love this painting you are working on!! And those chicks are so adorable!!! Thank you for sharing!
You are welcome @pyrowngs, it's interesting to paint myself..hehehe
Greek goddess and small sweet birds in the action of artistic creation . Have a nice day @reddust
People have told me I look like I am Greek...hahaha
I'm English, Scottish, German, and maybe Native American, my daughter is getting a DNA test to see exactly what is in our lineage. Pioneer women died in childbirth and many times men married Native American women after they lost their wife here in America so we could have Blackfoot and Shoshone Native American genes as well.
I am a Serb in the Balkans, who knows what I have in my DNA. You are a beautiful lady, a good man with a big heart @reddust
Your people have been through so many wars and invasions. I can understand why you may have a diverse lineage and also a very hardy genetic history.
Very nice post and artwork. Glad you are feeling better. Did you have a flu shot?
I will have to be tied up and forced to take vaccines of any kind. I would go to jail rather than take a vaccine!
It's progressing well. Looks great!
Despite it all I am going to finish this piece and write 3 articles by Sunday...hahaha, thank you @dbooster!
Hi :) I think you've chosen a beautiful set of colours. Looking forward to see the final result! This is a very creative way to do your self portrait, I like such references to classics. Will you be doing a post showing a progress of your painting anytime soon? It would be wonderful to learn from you! :) I'm also amazed by the fact that you have little birds at home, what are they exactly? Cute! All the best to you and be in good health! :) Klaudia
I like the colors as well now that I am not suffering from flu induced fever...hahaha <3
The birds are Zebra Finches from Australia and they are non aggressive friendly happy birds. that keep my one winged Mourning Dove Company!
I am happy I made myself so pretty, I was worried I might make myself old and ugly, which I feel like sometimes, not all the time thank goodness!
