1957 Chevrolet Bel Air ~ Art by Red Dust ~ Progress Report

My First Mechanical Drawing And Painting

After the excitement of the Hard-fork #19 wore off, I had a hard time settling down. I final sat down after lunch today to work on the car's grille, which is the most difficult area of this painting. I'm taking a break to show progress and then I'm back to painting. I'm making a promise to myself to work on this piece at least 4 hours a day. I tend to procrastinate with painting new subjects. I'm off to work on the "Butterfly A Day" series, it's my dessert after working on paintings that are difficult to chew and digest.

I cleaned house all morning and did the laundry too, the positive side of my procrastination habit.

22 x 30 inches, Hotpress Cotton Paper, and Watercolor.

Amazing post.. There is no one else in the world that is like you.

Honestly we are all unique and we all have much to show and much to strive for.

Cheers for the good post and much love from me..

Wow, you caught me off guard. I had to look twice to see if you had commented on my post. Thank you xdark21, I appreciate your positive energy.

Are you using Gouache, Water colors or both? It looks really fantastic. Cars are something I hate drawing myself. Not because I hate cars but because I always seem to mess them up!

No gouache so far...I forgot to add that piece of data.

I'm a personal fan of gouache over watercolors. But I often do an under painting in a burnt umber and other basic colors with water color then move in with the Gouache. I like the semi opacity of them. I want to experiment casein paints after playing with gouache for a while.

I like gouache and watercolor, I usually use gouache for highlights and evening out lines. I'm trying to stay with just watercolor on this piece but I can't make any promises about using gouache for touch ups lololol. I've only read about casein paints, I read their translucent abilities are amazing.

I'll be honest, I like gouache because straight watercolor is tough and hit or miss for me. So bravo for having those skills with it. It's a tough medium to master.

I started in oils back in the 80s and my kids were toddlers back then. They got into my oil paints and painted up their bedroom and carpet. That's when I went to watercolor, I love it now. Practice makes perfect @loganarchy😉

It's getting so close! Keep up the good work!

It seems so far away...but everyone's enthusiasm over this piece really, really helps me🙏

You are quite talented and I happen to love the old classic cars. Yes, it was difficult to settle down after the hard fork!

You too? Oh man I got so excited, I've been waiting for linear payouts foreeeever! Thank you @rangertx.

Nice job so far.
Very good on the detail of the grill.
And the chrome is looking very chromey.

After the tea set series I've got shiny down pat, it's the unknown forms that are difficult.

I think i have a bug with my commenting and voting! i hope this works, 3rd time lucky. I LOVE this, it's so cool. I will try to decide on that photo at some point. Great work my friend :D

Okay, no rush, but I'm looking forward to doing a collaboration with you. I'll do the painting you write the story.

That's sounds like a fair deal ;) i can see you put a lot into these. I'll let you have a break from the cars though while i think about which car. ;)

Everyone loves vintage cars, and this one is classy. 1957... Good year! :)

I think the older cars are works of art. When I finish this piece I'll write an article on the car's specs and designers too.

Woow!!
Best Vintage car.
Nice Painting.

Yeah, I've got to get back to work on my paintings, thank you so much @being-human🙏

Oh so you even do drawing.. i see!
Nice car you've got there.. wrrrrum - wrrrrum! :d

I've been drawing since I was a child, words and letters, this form of communication is incredibly difficult for me. But I keep on trying! Thank you @yaan🌺

Same. Can't wait to try drawing again. It's been so long since my last painting.
You don't need to thank me!
It's me who has to thank you for your hard work and beautiful posts hehe :))

Get to work! I'm offline now, going to paint on the 57 chevy and a 🦋

Yep! Waiting for more posts. But don't overwork too hard!

The heat here in Oklahoma exhaust me, I'm from the Northwest coast of America and I'm having a difficult time adjusting to the heat. I like cool wet weather....I'm upping my water intake....this kind of work is like lifting really heavy weights, running 10 miles a day, and chopping a chord of wood...😆

After a while i'm sure you will adjust nicely.
Even if it's really exhausting to work/sleep/work/sleep in this heat.

But don't forget to give your head some relax. And you'll be fine!
At the worst have a bucket of cold blankets..)
Or a refrigerator to hide from heat!))

Wonderful.
Looking for progress.

Thank you @nitan🌀
