New Painting! Seaweed is Greener.
The show Mikey just came off of was the Little Mermaid, as I'm sure I wrote of weeks ago before my little sabbatical. I think that has a fair bit to do with my decision to paint a tiny mermaid on this little 8x10" canvas. Over an acrylic pour. And the recent casting news in media too, certainly.
I just needed to feel some accomplishment in painting after so long without doing any. If I were to critique myself on this, I'd say it's not finished. I'd say I need to add more contrast to the mermaid, maybe a slight tinting away from the background colours. I'd also say the composition needs work, and that I should add something to the bottom half to counter-balance the top... but that's for later. For now, I just feel happy to have brought this to a presentational stage.
I think I might do a pour or two this afternoon! It'll be an interesting experience. I haven't done any acrylic pours since we acquired a small cat several months ago. She's especially curious. I don't know how I'll keep her from messing around with drying pours, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. The hair, I have no control over. The large pieces on my easel are both caked in cat hair, from sitting unworked for so long.
And so I go!

So cool that you used poured colours for the background. They create a lot of movement and a good contrast for the lovely mermaid to stand out:) ) If you like you can start using the #creativecoin tag to your posts. ooooh, a mermaid :D i love it! i do think mikey's show might have spilled into your inspiration here, and certainly the recent news about disney's casting has been sending people into a little tizzy... i find it silly that some people would 'protest' the casting of a black woman as Ariel. what inhospitable souls...
Love this piece, but I think you are right, it isn't quite finished. I think I can see future touch ups to this canvas, Rache !
And hahahah, I have dogs and I totally understand how they can make arting difficult. My dogs are the type that shed a lot so, fur is a problem.
Oh, you can also so #palnet tag, Rache.... They give PAL coins, which you can redeem for steems :)
if you're looking forward to hear some criticism, I agree that this artwork can be considered as unfinished. In my opinion this painting needs more layers and action, maybe more colors. I think that it is just too flat.
It would be easier for someone to see your painting without your own judgement :) You picked up all those small 'mistakes' and then it's not easy to look at it and don't see it :) BUT luckily I saw it before I read your text and I must say that I like it a lot. She is beautiful and in total harmony with her surroundings. I like the deep colors and the dark mood (maybe there is no dark mood and it's just me :))
Thank you for sharing and have a good day!
ehy dear @rachelsvparry, you did a really great job !! I absolutely love it in every little detail. the colors are fantastic, you couldn't have chosen better to let us dive deep into the sea in search of some magical siren. and so she is, beautiful and surreal, with that face that looks into the distance, perhaps wondering what awaits her in life. you have great talent :-)) congratulations on your curie rating :-))
