Frightful Times. "Raft of the Trump"

in #art7 years ago

48x48" Acrylic on canvas.
I made this in January of 2016. Paintings are as close to prescient as I get, I think. It's my link to the esoteric. The sheer size of this painting makes detail shots a bit difficult, not to mention that Trump is green against a green background, which obscures him a bit.

So what we have here, is my remake of the Raft of the Medusa, a tragic historical piece based on a true story of a ship going down, and a raft of cannibalistic survivors.

I've added in the Statue of Liberty, but replaced her face with that of Donald Trump.  The poem, too, is changed.
“F* off, you tired, you poor,
You huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to Mexico,
I'll take some wives, but nothing more!”

I share this piece today, because yesterday, a world leader, who stared directly into the sun against the urgings of his advisors, disbanded the climate change advisory panel. He also, after proving himself to be a nazi sympathizer, is a draft-dodger who is  happy to send thousands more troops into war. Well, mostly one day. His failure to denounce white supremacists was a few days ago.

I'm getting too riled up over this for my day. Rachel's going to paint some stuff and cool off now.

And just a little P.S., I'll probably say it again. Don't ask me to 'Follow back', because I won't even respond to you. This platform still has a chance to operate as a meritocracy, and if you're not earning follows with interesting material, you're ruining it for everyone in the blockchain.

i'm always envious of the skill required to create something so intricate. big art lover, can't do it for shit myself. beautiful piece!

and i'm right there with ya...dude is a travesty to the office and an embarrassment to the country as a whole.

Thank you very much, @bucho! It did take many many hours. Luckily, I have a passion for it, so I can make myself do the work. You might be surprised by what you can pull off. Have you ever tried a Paint Nite? I highly recommend them. They're a lot of fun, if nothing else. :)

It's a mix of sad and terrifying. So many people who voted for him in the first place refuse to have their minds changed by reason.

i actually just had an "arts and crafts" day with a homegirl of mine. she painted, i did some collage work. i've done a small amount of painting, but i've got zero talent for it (though i love the process). i may have to get back into it to really push myself, but i'm a fan of art regardless.

I respect that completely. :)

Nice and breath-taking artwork. How you are so well able to mix your art with politics is amazing!
I scanned the painting a zillion times looking for Trump in green in a green background, and couldnt find him, until i read that you painted his head as the statue of liberty's...
Your painting carries a lot of symbolism in it. I like it a lot... And i do hope it becomes a very valuable painting in the near future.
I can understand your frustrations about the way your president handles matters, we have such problems in my country Nigeria, and even worse we have had such problems plaguing us since our independence...

So my take is this: with all the "rubbish" that goes on at the political level of government, life must go on, and it still goes on...

I am impressed by the way you express yourself, both in painting and in writing. Well done!

please let me share this gift here

Thank you very much, @abasinkanga. I'm very touched that you took an in-depth look at my post, both in my art and my writing.
Interestingly, I suppose, I'm not an American citizen at all, but rather a Canadian in Toronto, not terribly far from the border. I am certainly frustrated on the way matters have been handled, as I feel that international misgivings due to the behaviour of one world leader impacts not just that country, but so many more. Personally, I fear the pressure my own government is finding itself under to be involved in a potential nuclear arms' race.

I have to admit that my knowledge about the unrest in Nigeria is very limited, but I will do some reading on it soon to educate myself.

And I will take a look at your link as soon as I can, too. :)

Congratulations !!!
