Sinji vrh - paradise for artists with authentic Panonnian farmhouse

Sinji vrh is a mountain just above Ajdovščina. It's easy accessible by car and bike or you can take one of many hiking routes. The mountain itself isn't anything special, but what makes it worth seeing is the small restaurant at the top called Penzion Sinji vrh. What is so special about it? They host an artists meeting every year that lasts couple of days. And in these couple of day they make all kind of cool images, sculptures, decorate the surroundings etc.

The interior is full of art

This one got my attention instantly. Really cool picture!

Anyone knows what this could be? The sculpture was huge, over 3 m tall

This dark face was on the photo stand with more than 30 pictures

Two sad faces representing today's crypto currencies charts =)

Just 5 minutes of walking from the pension will bring you to the top, where you can enjoy in a view that would be much better on a sunny day, but we had a rare chance to witness the "weather barrier". The right side of the mountain is completely frozen and the left side towards the sea isn't. It's really cool to see a straight line on the mountain ridge between the frozen and not frozen trees.

Everything is frozen on the right side of the mountain

Nice view! In clear day it should be visible all the way to the sea

And that's not all. You have a rare opportunity to see an authentic Pannonian farmhouse with straw roof, traditional facade made completely out of clay and wood and colored with slaked lime to get the white color. The gutters are wooden and all the water goes to the near by well. On the back there are two large stone furnaces. Why there are two i am not sure. Maybe one is for heating and the other is for cooking? Or maybe they had one for blacksmith or some kind of craft? You can't really see much of these especially not in such a good condition and well maintained!

It looks like it was recently restored. Have you ever seen one before?

Two stone furnaces. Anyone knows why they had two?

Old fashioned clay and slaked lime colored facade

The pension itself is know for good food (haven't tried it tho) especially for their vegetable soup and grilled lamb. You can stay over night in one of the rooms and use this barbecue!

You can grill your own food if you don't trust the land owners :)

There are some mysteries/questions left unanswered on these photos:

  • why are there two furnaces?
  • what do you think the sculpture means?
  • have you ever seen a Pannonian house before?

Sorry! I didn't see your question at first reading =)

The art workshops should be at the end of June and beginning of July. But this information could be old.
Their web site is a bit out of date: http://www.sinji-vrh.si/ (and in Slovenian)
