"MinnowMaid" mixed media painting
It's been 2 months since a tweet by Max Keiser sent me stumbling on board the steemit rocketship. And what a rollercoaster two months it's been I've had my blogging up's and downs, made friends, learned more than I thought possible in such a short space of time, been inspired to start drawing again and try new art mediums.
So when I reached 1000 steam power yesterday I decided my next post should be a celebration of minnowhood As I started working towards my next goal of reaching the lofty ranks of dolphin.
Frustration Sucks
In the past my work was always abstract so I never really drew faces, I spent most of yesterday watching tutorials and sketching to practise before getting to work this morning.
Things just didn't go to plan with my mermaid, frustration set in part way through my 4th attempt. It was time to take a walk before touching her hair.
Some time Later!
A walk in the rain and a cup of coffee later, I got stubborn and decided to forget the idea I had in my head and improvise, working on the section of the painting I liked.
I switched from watercolours to ink, used some soft pastels, doodled a minnow and my painting was finished. (I don't know why but the camera just wouldn't register the greens and yellows when I tried to photograph the final painting)
"I know she doesn't have ears! Human ears on mermaids is a silly idea."
Thank you, for all the support
and encouragement over the last two months.
Yes I came for the money (we all do!)
but it's the amazing community that keeps me here!

I love this one @phoenixmaid! To be honest, I love this style of painting faces - and in my opinion, you executed this flawlessly!
Thank you rigaronib, looking at the pictures now I realise it was the lack of eyebrows that was bugging me, (I don't think mermaids would have them either) so I'm a lot happier with it now.
Aaaahhh That makes sense. We artists are our own worst critics at times. haha
Congrats on the milestone, by the way!
Lol, we always see room for improvement.
I LOVE THIS!
And congratulations on 1000 SP! Whooo GURL! I know how much work that is! Definitely time to celebrate. I'll have a glass of wine on your behalf. CHEERS!
thanks, hope that wine was good :D
Gorgeous as usual, seems you can put your hand to most things and do well,
Thank's Karen.
Awesome stuff! I am glad to have met you on here and no mistake :O)
Ears are over rated, as are eyes.. on my wood caring I avoid eyes so everything looks abstract which I pretend is cool but its because I just cant do eyes!
Abstract is very cool, I can't wait to get my hands on a large canvas and a dry day so I can do some serious paint sploshing.
Ah, a dry day. How I long for such a thing! Its after July, up here I am battening down the hatches
has the wind started picking up yet? it's odd but part of me misses the nights when the wind was trying to lift the house, while I'd be sat up with the kids hot chocolates and storybooks.
Lol, seriously that sounds like every night after August till about May! The last two days have been quite wild in particular. There is something to be said for being snuggled up inside!
Cool minnow, he needs cheering up! I'll buy him a drink!
oh he's not sad he has a chronic case of "resting fish face" :D
I may use that phrase from now on, lol.
bravo girl.
Thanks Skapanes
