Night flowers

Pollination by moths

Moth pollinated flowers release their sweet scent in the evening, night or early morning to attract pollinators. The flowers of these plants are often white, what a beautiful sight they must be in a moonlit garden.

I created a watercolour background with loose strokes of colour on wet watercolour paper. I waited for it to dry and then looked at what shapes and patterns had been made. The shapes and colours made me think about flowing soft leaves and flowers dancing under the moonlight, so out of this idea came my drawing of these night-time blooming flowers.

Is that pollen or fairy dust coming out of the flowers? Only the moths will know!

I suspect it is most definitely fairy dust :0)

Maybe that is what makes the moths fly?

I can see no other mechanism that would allow such clunky creatures the joy of the air!

Pretty painting, and your words are very poetic. I admire you for remembering the moths. I mostly think of the daytime pollinators, but yeah the night is rich with subtle light, moonlight and other glowing phenomena. Where I live, we have a hundred thousand resident bats, called Mexican free-tailed bats, and people come from around the world to see them and admire them when they fly out from the bridge. Not sure how the bats relate to the story, except that they're lovely in their own way, much like those grayscale butterflies we call the moths.

I am very fond of bats. We have a couple that swoop around the outside of our house.
When i was a little girl (and occasionally now) i would go outside and lay down on the grass watching the bats swooping and diving above me.

Fun! Do you remember the subtle sound they make. It's like a flurry of a million wings at once, just whispering as they fly by. I want you to know I spotlighted this post in a curated list, launched last night, recognizing people who are spreading positive messages for the world. Awesome my dear @opheliafu you did a very good job with the mixture of colors and it looks more natural...good job indeed , great talent indeed, upped.
In addition, I was wondering if you would see my latest posts on steem being undervalued and send in your thoughts? your constructive suggestions always add value-I wish you success.

I love your painting! I am new on here and I posted two of my paintings so if you want to check them out and give me any tips I'd appreciate it!

I vote for the fairy dust, but I'm kinda biased with a gnome at home =D

Haha yes, you couldn't say otherwise or he might object!

Beautiful @opheliafu :) I did not know about this night blooming flowers. Sounds fascinating. Moonlight has always been a musical subject of composers. I love the whispering, silvery sounds some composers have created. I must think about this a little more. Perhaps we can explore a moonlight inspired composition for our Steemit friends :) hmmm

Your work is once again, beautiful. The hints of flower shapes in the first layer behind the dark lines of the foreground flowers is beautiful.

Thank you for sharing :)

Cheers my friend

The moon features in a lot of my work, I think her sound would be a gentle one. What do you think?

Absolutely. A couple of nights ago my violin and I were outside playing. The moon was out and it was beautiful. I was practicing for a show, so I did not have an opportunity to explore, but I will.

Speaking of nighttime music. As I am typing I am posting Brahms Lullaby for 3 little steemians to help them sleep :) Cute as buttons.

Hi @opheliafu . I spent some time experimenting with moonlight. I did several variations using a prepared violin, meaning I altered it in various way to change the sound. I also composed several melodies. I eventually came up with what hear here. Let me know your thoughts?

It is fairydust for sure! the one I put on wounds of crying children, that it stops hurting :D works every time you just have to be convincing :D

That is a cute idea!

Very nice art work as always, looking forward to seeing more of your posts :)

These are beautiful @opheliafu! Love the way the wet watercolor has a mind of it's own!

Sometimes it misbehaves, but this time it performed well.

Beautiful work @opehliafu I will follow you
