Nordic Simplicity - Vessels by Danish Ceramic Studio & Designer Ditte Fischer
Whenever I visit a Scandinavian country I always go looking for some inspiration in the design and art fields. In my opinion there's no better way to enjoy a city than searching for stripped back, minimalist design. My search for interesting craftsmen and makers led me on to the work of Ditte Fischer, a lady who has been designing and manufacturing everyday pieces of porcelain at her workshop in Copenhagen.
The Nordic simplicity that I mentioned above is one thing that drew me towards the work, but I also had an affinity with the shapes and forms that she's been able to produce. Not only are the silhouettes thin and structured, they're also in a mixture of subtle colours that are understated and a pleasure to revolve around.
To get such repetition Ditte decided to use moulds and pour the porcelain in to them. For such forms it's generally a good idea, especially the boat vessels that she's so well-known for (seen above).
