Since I'll be back in Australia in a few weeks time I wanted to highlight this work here as I thought it fitted with the theme nicely. Melbourne is a great little hub when it comes to craft and design. I frequently come across talented makers who are based there, so it always interests me where they source their inspiration and how they apply this to their own work. Australia itself doesn't necessarily have its own design style, not one that instantly comes to mind, but I think Asian countries play a subtle part in the overall aesthetic.

Many of the crafts that I come across has a natural vibe, they also have undertones of simplicity and reduction in form. I think that's why I was attracted to this sculpture by stone mason and artist Steven Clark, who takes a very hands on approach to his sculpture and works directly with the material to achieve these forms that have a rustic charm.

Although at the moment we're only able to see photos and pictures from inside his studio, all of which are photographed by Bobby Clark, I'm intrigued to see what else will come from this project in the near future. So in a way this is one to watch, as well as offering up some nice photography that is sure to inspire you. More can be seen on his website below.
