A fun visit to the Botero Museum/ Getting to know Bogotá

in #art6 years ago

Hello dear friends Steemians

I greet you from my little corner of Steemit, where I have the opportunity to connect with you, as a big family, today I come to present a fun and interesting visit that I had the opportunity to make to the Botero Museum, in the city of Bogota, Colombia.

That trip was a little more than two years ago and it was really a different trip, I visited museums and historical sites, I enjoyed learning and knowing a little about the history of our brother country, in my trip full of flavor, culture, cold and shopping, I came across a center full of culture and history, I present you an English version of this fun trip.

Botero Museum

Before continuing, I tell you that Fernando Botero is a Colombian born in Medellín in 1932, his first watercolor painting in 1944 and what I call torero was the step for his family to understand and support his vocation and love for art, four years later he presents his first exhibition in his native Medellín. Botero, who studied in Europe, thanks to the prizes he won and the sales of some of his works, after finishing his studies in Spain, returned to Bogota where he began to present his works, receiving harsh criticism, disappointed in Mexico, and was trapped by new experiences. From there, Botero's works are known for presenting objects or people of a larger size than usual or of a robust appearance, in addition to handling the canvas very well, he has dedicated himself to making great sculptures with materials such as bronze.

This great artist has permanent exhibitions in countries such as: Germany, Argentina, Armenia, Israel, Costa Rica, his native Colombia, Venezuela and others. Undoubtedly a source of pride for all our Colombian brothers and sisters.

The Botero Museum, located in the historical center of Bogota, presents a permanent exhibition of works donated by the artist, originally Botero offered his works to the Museum of Antioquia in Medellin (his native city) with the aim of disseminating art, after the delay of the authorities in responding, decides to donate his work to the mayor of Bogotá, Enrique Peñalosa, who would have shown his interest in creating a museum for these works. The artist requested that his work be housed in the Banco de la República de Bogota, an institution of broad cultural interest, which obtained the precious donation valued at 200 million dollars.

Let's take a look at some of the autographies I took that day.

Warning: The images below are selfies fun! No disrespect encouraged! I just wanted to keep my photographic record of these works.

In each painting you can see how the artist defines the larger figures, but all with a peculiar beauty, in the room there are more than 200 works, not only by Botero, but also by other artists of great worldwide recognition, a very original walk that I recommend you can do if you visit beautiful Colombia.

My English is not very good, so for the translation, www.deepl.com helps me.

Until next time.

It's great to see when an artist takes something, and by using their vision, they transform it and give it another angle. And this artist you mention in the post really added a different touch to famous pieces of arts like the Venus sculpture and the Monalisa .
