"Cradle" | Gallery: Fine Art
Cradle actually started its life as a Pong. See my recent post to know what dIFS Pongs are. So yes, it was never meant for my gallery but, after some time, I decided I liked it so much that it just had to go in there.
In the end, it was all about the symbolism... The foetal shapes, all nested inside each other, giving a sense of the birth of something new, and the nurturing of this newness. Had I set out to create this on purpose, I don't think I could have achieved anything as good.

“The cradle rocks above an abyss, and common sense tells us that our existence is but a brief crack of light between two eternities of darkness. Although the two are identical twins, man, as a rule, views the prenatal abyss with more calm than the one he is heading for.”
-- Vladimir Nabokov, Speak, Memory
The Creation Process:
As I said, this was a dIFS Pong in a series of Pongs between @welshpixie and I. So its true origin is her image, "Grindyard":
I then did as I always do when starting a new pong... I reset her parameters/camera angle. I then changed the "Gears" formula for "KleinbageIFS" and got image number 1 (see below). Images 2 and 3 are just small tweaks to parameters and shifting the camera viewpoint around, until I found a collection of promising shapes (image 3):
Zooming in to those shapes, I decided it was worthy, and framed it... (image 4). The last step, of course, was colouring. I went through many different textures, many of them my own creations, but finally settled on this one (free texture by "Lost and Taken") because of the beautiful polished wood feel it gave when combine with my lighting settings:
And that was that =) ... I'm looking forward to creating more things in this way now that @welshpixie and I have started a new dIFS Pong series.
I'm also trying to get more into doing commissioned work, starting with personalised mandalas. If you'd like something like this, please don't be shy... Get in contact! =)
Thank you for your upvote 💖
I appreciate it more than can be expressed in one line at the end of a post.

What is name of the software you are using to create it?
Hi @rocksg ^^ First, thank you for the several recent upvotes on my work =) A quick look at your profile makes me surprised you don't already know...: For 3 dimensional fractals, I use Mandelbulb 3D.
The other program I use frequently is JWildFire.
I know about jwildfire. But this mandlebulb 3d is all new to me. Is it free to download and use?
It is =) ... Let me get you the link quick...
Here we go: Mandelbulb 3D
Thanx bro, any such software for 2D fractals also?
There are plenty, some paid, some free, but I really, really like JWildFire so haven't tried any others ;P
Jwildfire is not free. It is paid I think.
Nope, it's 100% free =) http://www.andreas-maschke.com/?page_id=351
I love this one! Great job 😊
Thank you! =) .. A happy accident, hehe ^^
Those are the best ones 😆
Excellent post Jody, I particularly like your explanation of the process! Love that image it looks very organic.
Thank you! Soz for taking so long to reply. Indeed, the organic look of it is something now easy to get in MB3D ... Wish I could render it larger (Sadly, the texture doesn't allow for it - gets too blurry)
I like to create some textures in JWildfire and then use them in MB3D. Try that.
Oh, I do that sometimes =) But I meant, with this piece, I sadly can't render it larger because of the texture used. I could use a different texture on the same shapes, but then it wouldn't be the same piece of art.
Understand. 😉
I love surrealism...fantastic!
Thank you very much! =)
