How To Draw Lips

in #art8 years ago (edited)

Lips look so simple, Yet people struggle with those too!
They are quite easy, They just take practice. You have to build up on the shades and make them look really pretty

Start with a basic lip expression line

You want the line to reflect whether you want a sad or a happy face. If you are beginner try something simple.

Draw the top lip

Do you want your lips with large mountain tops? Small ones? None at all?

Draw the bottom line, For the bottom lip

You don't want to draw in the whole lip shape, It can be somewhat restrictive, It also can be hard to develop the basic shape of the bottom lip too.
I like to let mine come in naturally.

Start shading the lips

Shading the lips is similar to shading hair, Or eye pupils. Start heavy, Go light with each stroke. Dont overshade the lips, Or they'll look funny.

One trick is to...

Make the top lip much darker than the bottom lip, It makes the lips look more natural.

Start shading the bottom lip.

Try to natually figure out where the next lines will go. To create a realistic lip, You can very lightly draw the guidelines if you need to.

All done! Great job :)

hmmm, how about symmetry?
do you draw asymmetric lips on purpose?
an atom here or there makes something asymmetric,
but your drawing is grossly asymmetric,
even taking into account angle & perspective...
Its hard for me to understand how you as an artist dont comprehend
the effect asymmetry has on body art perception.

Present for you:

"Un punto en el mar oscuro, donde la luz se acurruca"

"A dot in the dark sea, where light curls up on itself"

Nothing is perfectly symmetric in nature :)

yes, that is correct, an atom here or there makes something asymmetric,
but your drawing is grossly asymmetric.
Do you know the effect asymmetry has on art, specifically on the perception of body art?

If you look carefully the lips are at an angle :) So they aren't really "asymmetric" They are just pointed in another direction. So if she had her face slightly tilted to the left it would work that way.

No, believe me, the male eye is designed to catch these asymmetries contemplating perspective and all,
why cant you accept its grossly assymetric?

My eldest son loves to draw and is excited about you.
