Dragon Studies: Quick sketch and Pen Art 🎨
Practice
I am practicing some dragon anatomy and scales. I made some quick art using some Dong-A gelpens.
- Sketch (I looked at multiple references online)
- Ink - using a brush pen or any black gel pen will do.
- Coloring and drawing scales using colored gel pens.
The Art
Here's the process!
Some points to remember
- 2d - the colors are flat
- Theres minimal shades of a darker pen. So theres just two tones.
- Always use reference photos if you feel unsure of anatomy, style or shape and form.

Beautiful drawing, as I always expect from you. It reminded me of the "Stanford Dragon", a 3D model made from a 3D scan of a sculpture by the computer graphics department of Stanford University.
I'm writing a blog entry about the early days of 3D graphics research and development, in the computer science faculties of the the three universities that were the hotbed of graphics research in the 70s until today, namely, University of Utah, Cornell University, and Stanford University.
No one here has blogged about this subject yet, and I feel that it's something my fellow Pinoy 3D artists should know about. Most of them only know how to create, but know nothing about the history of the computer science research that led to the development of the various 2D and 3D graphics software we have today.

I was looking through your feed and had to stop on the dragon! Have you ever watched Game of Thrones? I think it would be amazing to see a sketch of Daenerys' three dragons. :) But I may be a bit obsessed with the show!
