Chaos Dwarfs #9 Let's paint step by step! Scibor miniatures

in #art8 years ago

Hello again and welcome to another painting step by step post from me! This one was a bit rushed to be fair and I might be going back to it and giving the model a few minor touches since I see some things that bug me on the zoomed photos here. It is yet another one of my Evil Dwarfs from Scibor Miniatures. This time the musician of the regiment having his drum and drum stick that has a scull at the end of it (they are tiny little bad asses after all).

So let's get to it!

First off I started with the skin tone. It is getting harder and harder with some of these models since the resin is cut quite harsh towards the recesses and shadows are somewhat awkward to do. This is one of the things I'd like to go back to and bring a little bit more contrast for the skin. I've used the same old recipe of Cadian Fleshtone (GW), Dark Sea Blue and Ivory White (Vallejo) with a glaze of Mephiston Red mixed with the skin tone (GW range as well).

Usually I do the metal parts next but today I decided to finish the back of the mini and paint all the leather and the fur. I used a variety of tones for this one going to yellow as the final highlight on the leather and to a dusty white colour for the fur. Tank brown (Vallejo), Mournfang brown and Averland Sunset (GW) were the colours used for the leather. Mournfang brown, Zandri Dust and Pure white are the colours mixed for the fur.

The metal is done as always with wet blending and glazes of Dark Sea Blue, Ivory White and Tank Brown (Vallejo).

For the cold gold I used Japanese Uniform mixed with black and added white for the highlights. The grey non metallic metal is made of Black, Dawnstone grey(GW) and White. For the top part of the drum I mixed Tank brown and Zandri Dust adding lighter layers of the same mix with more Zandri Dust in the mix for the highlights.

Finally I painted and glued the model onto the base. Used my new Light tent for these two photos. I am not sure how much I like it yet since it comes with built in LED lights and my lamp I use for painting is a lot a lot better. I have to experiment a bit more and see what fits me better. You can suggest which one do you prefer in the comments (All the other pictures from this project on a white background were done with my normal desk light).

If you are interested in the techniques I use for painting my minis here is a post I made explaining all the basics. If you'd like to check out my previous post about this project here is a link to it as well.
