Working on my new Singularity piece and Enjoying a rainy afternoon.

Here is the progress of my latest Singularity piece:

Here it is without the Steemit Crop

You will recall I shared the study of it the other day.

I took my usual bus trip into town. And it was truly raining this morning.

You can see the banner for the Christmas Panto here, which will be CInderella. I heard that in London in the West End, the big Panto will be Snow White and it's starring Dawn French, so I'd love to see it. Yet, again, another thing that would be more acceptable if I had a child. Not sure if an unattended adult should go to the Christmas Panto?

As it was a rainy day it didn't interfere with my work space at the cafe.

I love this Caffe nero on the high in Canterbury as it is in a very ancient building from Elizabethan times. It truly is a great place to work. And when you are done on a rainy afternoon, you are on the high street with so many things to do.

And as it was a rainy day, I headed to the Royal Museum and Free Library just a few doors down.

This is how it would look on a sunny day without scaffolding.

Of course today it was pouring down cats and dogs and it is encased in scaffolding for some renovations. Sorry it's a bit blurry, but it was a rainy day.

There are lot's of wonderful things in here, including some of my favourite things: Animal Taxidermy, but I'll share some of that in another post.

Today I had portraiture on my mind, so I spent some time admiring the various portraits to be found in here.

It's a wonderful way to spend a rainy afternoon. And when I was done admiring portraits and taxidermy, I headed over to another little gem I found, an Oxfam book store! It's full of treasures and there are some wonderful antique garden and art books I think I might get, but not when I need to take the bus. I am considering taking a car for a week to do some exploring and that would be a good time to buy anything that I could transport more easily, like heavy books.

Now, back to my current Singularity piece:

I've decided to approach these pieces as portraiture.

I've still every intention of doing a new series of animal themed images and I think my Singularity portraits will be the perfect counter point to that. When trying to decide if I should do this or that, I've just decided to do both, in a very specific manner each.

Again I am a creature of habit and lists.

I shall close here as I had meant this to be done this morning and here it is gone 4:30 my time.

I hope all of you found a way to enjoy your afternoon and if it was fraught with rain that you found some lovely book shops or museums to poke about it, it does one's spirit no end of good

The Double face is stunning and uncanny, I really like it. Victorian portrait meet eighties scifi bride.

Good to see that you are finding your way around in the grey and wet Christmas weather. You will get into a life rhythm soon I am sure. Time does that.

btw. The way you write is not at all habit and list-like, but enjoyable non the same.
And I really like to see when people just take some pictures and show how their day was.

Thank you, I'm kind of happy with it. I think my Singularity pieces are definitely going to go down the road of 'portraits' we shall see.

Yes, we do have more grey and wet here. Back at Toad Hall I know it is sunny and bright, but also COLD and I'll take 50 F rain over 0 degree sun most days as then I can get out into it and be comfortable. And I love how stoic the English are, another trait of theirs that always makes me feel more AT HOME here than in the USA.

I'm glad my rambling writing isn't too hard too follow!

Rain actually makes it colder as the moist help increases the conduction of heat from the body. My mother was in Greenland last winter and at the same time my wife was in Lapland in Northern Sweden, both places at about -35 F (and C) and they both said that Denmark when it was windy and wet (as it often is) was colder at about freezing point.

But I am glad you thrive. Stoicism is truly a British trait. There is something attractive about this life philosophy as opposed to speculative philosophy.

I'm often the 'glass is half full' sort of person, so if you don't take the down how can you appreciate the up? Or something like that ;)

But here with 50 F and rain compared to Toad Hall at 10 F and sun...I'll take the rain :)

Yes, I am like you. The only weather I have a hard time with is: too hot.

Well, I think you need to take a small notebook to the Christmas Panto. Watch it and from time time time scribble in your notebook. Everybody will think you are a reviewer and think nothing about your not having a child.

I'm really liking the look of your new piece, waiting more or less patiently for the final.

And I love your cafe. A very cool place.

That is actually a really good idea, or maybe a professional looking camera and I'll look 'official'. I would truly like to at least go to our local Canterbury one, we shall see.

I'm glad you like my new piece. I've resigned myself to that fact that my art has to simply live in two worlds, one more painterly oil styled scifi portraits as well as more tongue in cheek watercolours of animals in odd situations.

I'm sure your taxidermy post is up and i need just look for it, but i am looking forward to it!

It is not, I haven't done one yet, probably this week. There is a lot of images as I go to the museum that has it a lot. I just wish the lighting was better as you get a glare off the glass when you take the images.

You've done an amazing job! I love this :)
