First time in Krita - Alonian Seed concept art.
Their first meeting.
Seamus, is helping me figure out what Lenard (one of the human characters in Alonian Seed) will look and act like by posing with Phil. Given the need for "concept art" I decided I would try my hand at it.
This first attempt at using Krita, an Open Source illustration program. Its quite amazing! Though I didn't have the where-with-all to capture actual step by steps here is the basic flow from original image to finished
In the end I really like the rough "painted" look of the image so I didn't take the time to clean up the edges, or spend too much time making the scaning light from the bots eyes look like it was truly "light" but I think the final image has a lot of emotion to it.
If you're interested in Krita you can find it at their home page which shows off what you can do with the software far better than I. If you're on Linux most distributions have it in their software store ready for download.
Allonian Seed
Allonian Seed is (or will be) a Metroid Prime + Monster Rancher inspired bot building game built around the STEEM blockchain and ecosystem. If you want to find out more about the project or how you can help check out our fundition page here. We are looking to fund a years worth of development and even just a dollar a month will go a long way to making the game a reality.
As usual like and follow me as well as @v-entertainment to find out more about the game and all my activities.
Amazing, @bflanagin ! I really like how you captured the scene ! There is a lot of narrative contents in the final picture :) Great use of a reference image (featuring Seamus! What a model he makes!) and I like how you make the scanning effect on the hand :D So cool !
Krita is my favourite arting software too, though I've only been using the Tilted Pencil tool mostly XD But I think @ryivhnn and @katharsisdrill also uses it a fair bit, and she'd be able to help out if you need tips and tricks around the software :D
I've always wanted to try my hand at it, but always felt I need a drawing tablet to get anything good created. Thankfully my track ball seems to work pretty well. This still took me a few hours to create so I'm a long way from being good at it, but its a fabulously intuitive program. My next step is to see if I can get the video game to mimic the pallet and strokes. That way the game will really have its own vibe that I don't think I've seen in other games.
Yeah, I think that's a fantastic idea ! Giving the game a more artistic look might make it a very unique game, for sure :D
There's a lot of second hand drawing tablets that might be affordable on eBay, if you're ever in the market to buy one, I think :)
Your track ball seems to be working pretty well though ! :D :D :D
Yes, yes I do. But I'm boring and don't actually use the entirety of the program :) Will always help however I can though XD
Cool! I use Krita all the time.

This is so cool!!! I’ve really been enjoying seeing you and your boys build these bots but I had no idea it was going to be a game too! Super exciting and very well done. I’m excited to see it progress.
Honest though, what was more fun? This, or a 3D image of your face? 😜
That's hard. I think I enjoyed this more because I had a more complete concept in mind when I started. Where as I see 3D work as something that builds over time. Like polishing a stone or cutting a jewel to be fit into a piece of jewelry later.
And yeah we're working on a game together. Though I fear the story has run away with us and now we're a bit lost in the weeds.
