THE BOOK NOOK

Have you noticed, nowadays, there are none or few,
Bookshops; now that will just never do.
What an indictment on modern society,
A barometer of interest in reading propriety.
One of the joys of a quality life,
Reading alone, or with your dear wife.
And to see children avidly reading,
Grammar, storyline, and plot they are heeding.
All this to be lost, to a computerized world?
It seems that a disaster has been unfurled!

Never-the-less, this is just what has occurred!
It seems scurrilous, unwarranted, patently absurd.
Oh, yes. You can purchase books on-line,
Nothing wrong with that, perfectly fine,
But in actual bookshops, if one is so inclined,
You can BROWSE, so important, it has been opined.
I suppose libraries will be the next to be affected.
Perhaps on-line libraries! Our world is just so infected.
With considerations only about facilitation, ease and money.
And the results can be devastating, not particularly funny.
Now, one would readily admit with just no doubt,
Especially after a really constructive reading bout,
That modern books are an improvement on earlier forms of writing.
Cuneiform tables and scrolls we’re citing,
Cumbersome, indeed, not a subject for skiting,
But at least it was a stunt, most inviting.

One who values books can be thought of as “bookish”,
An accountant who “cooks the books” as “cookish.”
A “Book Worm” supposedly wriggles through a books pages.
Intrigued and fascinated by contents courageous.
Fear not! I’m sure that it’ll all work out in the end,
This alarming status in book dealing trend.
The thing to do, is to still spend some of your wages,
On Bookish material, keep turning those pages.
