Art is a game of music.
Mozart once said: 'Music is not in the notes, but in the silence between them.'
LINE:
One of the ways you can tell if art is ´good art´, is by the quality of the line.
Truth of intention is revealed within in a line. This concept is used in Graphology (the science of reading a someone´s personality in their hand writing)
A line can be alive or lively.
It can be exciting or sleep.
It can be calm or cutting.
A line can also be painful or dead.
I love to play with line because when we play we are being our true selves.
No one pretends to play especially if they really enjoy the game.
As with any game, it can be played well or played badly.
However, the point of the creative game is not to win but to enjoy playing.
Just as with music, we do no work music, we play it.
Art is the same.
COLOR:
It took millions of years of evolution to create the human eye.
The human eye can see seven million variations of color.
Thus why not give the eye the thrill it deserves.
Color is the thrill of the millennium. It is a fairground on which we should we should let of ourselves and enjoy life.
In this post I explore, and share through my own work,
how I enjoy combining line and color as a way of playing art.

makes for an interesting visual play on the idea of illustration.

I'm amazed at how much work, and therefor "play" you put into your artwork. The first image surprised me, once you explained it. Hand drawn and photo and photoshop. As well as the texturing on the be-coated man. Pleasantly unexpected. It's amazing, once you learn something of the process, and how much someone put into their art, it makes it appreciated all that much more. The original image is great, but once you learn the ingenuity, creativity, etc that went into it, it makes it pop all that much more. Ive always been as interested in process, as in the final outcome. As that well-known hero of space years back used to say..."Fascinating".
I also like your take on line...though, since I'm not much of a visual artist, I interpret it in the context of the written line. The idea of play is so very very true. Often in the writing process, emotions become very powerful. And more often than not, it it is just downright fun and exciting to sit down and write. Sometimes the fingers are too slow, and one can't wait to get it on the page.
Hate to see what the graphologists say about my chickenscratch though. Don't think I'll ask.

Ha ha I know what you by the fingers not moving fast enough when you write, I often have same problem. The thoughts run faster than the hand. But when that happens it is a good thing because it means you are in the flow and when your in the flow you are at your best - playing at your best.
