Fluid Painting Round 3 ( With Video)
Here is the latest set of fluid paintings. I tried a few new things here. First I replaced the Floetrol that I was using as a medium with Liquitex Pouring Medium which is better suited for the technique. I still have some experimenting to get the exact consistency I want, but so far it has worked out much better. I still get the effects I want with the added bonus of a smoother glossier finish, and none of the cracking that was happening with the Floetrol.
You will notice that some of these are painted on glass and some on canvas board. Well, let me tell you about that. I found a decent deal on 5"x 7" frames and bought 20 of them. Once I got back home I found out that 5"x 7" canvas boards don't fit in that particular type of frame. So instead of returning the frames I decided try just painting on the glass.
The first one I tested, Rip In Time, turned out great. So then I tried adding acrylic gesso on top of the glass of a few. Apparently between the subtle brush strokes in the gesso and an interaction of pouring medium and the gesso created some wrinkles that can be seen in , Street, Volcanic Autumn, and Cloudy Evening. It works in a way to add variety. That might lead me to experiment with adding texture in an under-painting to see what kind of effects I can get.
I am going to try to correct the texture issue in the next session by roughing up the surface of the glass instead of applying gesso. I also might look for a spray alternative to keep from having brushstrokes again.

I really like the first two more blue patterns. This is a cool concept.
Thank you. Those remind me of a stream up close.
I think my favorites are Volcanic Autumn, Rip in Time, and Root of the Universe
