Frodo's Pepper Ghost - sand sculpture
Remember that time when Tupac performed from beyond the grave with Snoop Dog. Well it wasn't some amazing new holographic technology but an old stage effect first demonstrated in 1862 by English scientist John Henry Pepper and was coined 'Peppers Ghost' because of the way it allowed apparitions to appear on stage with other actors.
last time I showed the main sculpture made in Wijnegem, Belgium based on the theme of books and in particular Encyclopedias. Thank you all for your kindness on that post..
Today I wanted to show this other quick little thing I made based on the ' lord of the Rings'. It wasn't a great sculpture because of the short time I had to make it but the way it was displayed was quite clever, an idea decided upon by Baldrick Buckle, one of the organisers.
It is actually quite a simple idea. Using a sheet of glass placed 45 degrees to the audience it reflects a character off stage when light is applied to them. In my case I made a little Frodo placing his Precious on his finger. For Tupac they used a sheet of thin film and a video projection.

When the light is removed. Puff, like magic, it disappears. Well, nearly, there was a bit too much ambient light.

Sculpture looks pretty good for not being a great one XD And that was a pretty clever way of displaying it :)
I only had a day and a half to make the figure. To get a good likeness you really need more time. Luckily people couldn't get too close and could only see the reflection so I think I got away with it.

This is such a cool way to exhibit Frodo! Pepper ghost !! What an amazing technique and the sculpture is really nice, also... even if you think it isn't your best, for a day and a half job, I think you really captured the character well :D
