Ancient rock cut Karla Caves from India
These are the insides of Karla Caves located near Lonavla in Maharashtra.They are rock cut Budhist caves constructed about 2000 years ago.
This is the inner sanctum which is used as a prayer hall.It has 37 huge octoganal shaped pillars with sculptures of men,women and animals on top.You can also see something written in ancient language(I guess it is the Brahmi scriptAlmost two years from the visit).
Ceiling is curved with wooden planks at bottom.
We went there during the scorching march sun.But was surprised by how cool and pleasant it felt inside those caves.
This is how the outside of the cave look like.Can you spot the beehives on the ceiling.That was a very scary sight!
Found these broken trunk elephant carvings at the entrance of the caves.
This is how the cave look from outside.The cave in the above picture is in the right side of this picture.In the front you can see Ekvira temple with orange flags on top.On the left side there are another set of caves for which entry was restricted at that time.
