Architectural Photography: St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague, true Gothic masterpiece

If you have been to Prague, the capital city of my homeland Czech Republic, you are probably familiar with this impressive piece of architecture as it is one of the most iconic landmarks of the city.

Founded as early as in circa 930, the St. Vitus Cathedral is a majestic Roman Catholic metropolitan cathedral situated within the complex of the Prague Castle in the historic center of the city.

With its highest tower measuring staggering 103 m (338 ft), the cathedral is one of the largest and most important Gothic churches in the country as well as in all Europe.

The cathedral has long been known as the St. Vitus Cathedral but in fact, it is dedicated to three saints - st. Vitus, Adalbert and Wenceslaus.

Currently serving as the seat of the Prague Archbishop, the cathedral has witnessed numerous king coronations, important religious ceremonies and other notable events throughout its long history.

Czech: Přiznám se, že na dnešek jsem měl původně připravený děkovný post s mou první soutěží plánovaný k příležitosti dosažení mety 500 sledujících, kterou jsem měl dnes podle mých výpočtů pokořit, ale nestalo se, tak jsem musel narychlo vymyslet něco jiného :D (Jak že se to říká? Nechval dne před večerem? :D) Tak jsem se rozhodl tradičně zapojit do fotosoutěže a dnes jsem zvolil #architecturalphotography. Vám je tato ikonická pražská stavba jistě dobře známa, takže povídání kolem si tentokrát odpustím. Snad jen zmíním fakt, který jsem já donedávna nevěděl, a sice že Svatovítská katedrála je ve skutečnosti kromě sv. Víta zasvěcena také sv. Vojtěchovi a sv. Václavovi. Toliko mé dnešní provizorní architektonické okénko :) Poděkování a soutěž tedy snad zítra :D
