Question about APPICS

in #appics6 years ago (edited)

So I have been reading the APPICs whitepaper.

First of I hate the whitepaper. It raises many red flags. Containing lots of fluff and basically no content.

But its a project ontop of steem so I would want to give it a closer look. Clearly they are spending lots of marketing and sales. I have just received a promotion on earn.com.

Here are my two most basic questions:

  1. What is the product? I dont get it and the whitepaper does not really describe it but it looks like a picture app ontop of steem.

  2. Business Model
If i understand correctly they want to create fees ontop of steem? I dont understand how that benefits token holders or users.

Curious for your answers

To me it seems like an instagram-clone that wants to reward users with their own XAP token (A SmartMediaToken based on the STEEM Blockchain). And they promise that users will be able to do buying, etc with XAP (seems a little too much imo).

What I don't quite understand so far is why they will not just use steem and need their own token - Other than selling it at the ICO to get money of course ;)

Whenever I hear from them, it is basically just marketing, marketing, marketing. And I think the app shall not even be released until fall or winter - so it will probably appear somewhen in 2019 the earliest.

I mean the project looks cool and all - but I just don't see any real advantages over STEEM itsself and therefore didn't invest.

Sums up my opinion.

yea. I see lots of fluff too.

My initial impression was that they are just https://steepshot.io on SMT made a little better. So I didn't really bother to even read the whitepaper. If I remember correctly, #steepshot gets 15% of the earnings. So they should be bringing in decent money to the project and it's actually a working project. It's not as good as instagram but steepshot can improve by the time APPICS do their "FULL ROLLOUT Q3-Q4 2018" Both their partners are ICO and marketing related. they keep 20% of the tokens for themselves (compare that to 15% cut from steepshot)

If I add something a little subjective I'd say the videos felt flat, bland and just shilling to cover up that they are just instagram with tokens on blockchain which should be far easier than creating DTube or Dlive(which had 0% beneficiaries last time I checked)

According to this comment from Dlive Admin they are going for SMTs too. I'd say wait for that. Dlive is an already working product.

IMHO investing in APPICS is as good as investing in SNAP. If you were one of the earliest to the party, you'd make good money with all the hype + discounted prices from the ICO. Personally I'd just set smartsteem to use my VP when it's over 98% and collect some passive income.

I just released a pretty good overview about APPICS. I will try to answer the question why they need to have their own token. The reason is they will serve a certain community of people/influencers which focus will be on Video, Picture and Promotion content. They want to be an independent brand with its own ecosystem. Therefore they need there own token and Application which runs on the Steem-Blockchain. We as Steem-Users will profit when APPICS goes Viral and they will need to keep a lot of Steempower in there Account in order to let there App run smoothly - this has to do with Bandwith power that depends on your Steempower. So as more people join APPICS they need more Steempower to run the App a perfect win-win situation. You can still join their bounty program to earn some free XRP tokens.

Thank you for sharing. I don’t understand the business model. How are they going to create demand for the token and revenue.

I think in the current situation where Steemit.com is serving, more bad than good, a general blogging experience to all different kind of users, is not going to be the best way to go. We need more specific communities that care about the content that users really want to see. So by building specific applications like APPICS allows users who are just interested in "soft content" to have there own platform with there own rules and economics. Actually, all projects like dtube, dsound, utopian...are serving a special kind of content and therefore could also create their own SMT token in the future. The big difference with APPICS in my opinion, is the feature that they will have moderators on each topic e.g. lifestyle, tech, health... and these moderators will influence the visibility of the trending pages on these categories. The moderators will be voted by the community/users for a certain time period. That all being said it is still early stage for APPICS, and their community has to be built yet. Anyhow, I think the marketcap of the current ICO is kind of attractive if you consider that they will probably sell tokens worth around 8-12 mio. usd.

All of what u are saying is nice and sweet, but has nothing to do with a business model.

Ok, one last try - the business model is the same as with Steemit. Get paid for your content, voting and commenting. That is the basis because we are in the decentralized blockchain industry there is not going to be a traditional business model in terms of how much profit do they make or what kind of assets do they hold on their balance sheet. That is not relevant for a development Team like APPICS, the only thing they care is the network effect of how many users will join their platform and use their XAP Tokens. The only "real" value all these tokens have is how many users are actually using the coin, and is there a growing network effect. So the mission for APPICS is to build an easy to use APP where Users can build and create their own Social Media business.
Let me just ask you, what do you think is the business model of Steemit.com (not Steem the Blockchain) why are you here? and why do you see any value in Steem-Token?

I have questions myself and I don't think I like appics. It is an instagram clone but we already have that in the form of @steepshot. Steepshot uses steem and therefor we should support it and do outreach for it because it helps us all. I really believe users want this because it is how people want to share their social media.

Appics has their own coin and you can buy the token with several cryptos so I'm not sure why we should support it. If you needed steem to buy it and got paid out in steem then fine. But, we have a better option already in steepshot and I think everyone should be using that instead because it is good for the entire steemit ecosystem.

So far all I've learned is that they want to use (XAP) ticker and claim to be the first SMT project, but its false. There were several other apps before them and one of them plans to have the ticker (ZAP) so considering their lies from day one, I dont see APPICS as great community members so far.

That great question I also know about these question and hope some one give it with better explaination

The business model is to find a structure that will pay out money

the plan is to make a plan?

It is necessary to find a structural unit that will bring profit or other income. This is my opinion. Good luck.

I want to research more about the application.

It will probably be like Instagram.
The interface will be better and quicker cause it has a mobile app.

Quicker than instagram? Unlikely because Instagram is built without the steem blockchain.

Also Instagram is an app.

Sorry I didn't convey it properly..
I meant quicker than steemit not Instagram

So APPICS has faster access to the steem blockchain than steemit because theyre coded as an app?

I'm not saying that as a rule, though it generally is the case

lol

I'm glad that I'm not the only one with these questions.
Already thought it's me who doesn't understand it ...
Lots of PR but less content was my first idea.
Hopefully, I'm wrong and can read the answers here ...
