AOC represents the ideal millennial politician.
AOC interests me as a political scientist because she is the ideal type millennial politician. Not only does she exhibit one of the most distinct - not necessarily bad, but distinct - millennial characteristics, but it is only the changed culture of Congress and contemporary technology that make her possible.
The millennial characteristic is the disdain for hierarchy. Millennials reportedly like a "flatter" work place, where bosses and employees are seen as on a more equal level.
The change in Congress is that it also has become less hierarchical. In the old days seniority was everything, and frosh Representatives were seen and not heard; they certainly did not challenge the elders in their party. The seniority system has been slowly breaking down since the 1970s, I believe, and took a sharp hit after the '94 Gingrich-led Republican "revolution," and then again after the Tea Party Republican frosh won seats in 2010 and immediately handed their own party's Speaker, John Boehner, a loss on the first vote he called by refusing to follow the party line.
And of course social media has played a big role in how AOC has been able to quickly establish a national profile.
Add onto that list her considerable charisma and you have a potential powerhouse pol for a long time.
But she had better remember that progressives in Washington Boston, and even Manhattan, can't vote for her. If she seeks her true base nationally she may forget that all politics is local, that the folks back home may not have elected her because she was a green progressive but simply because she'd charismatic and out-hustled an opponent who ahem, seemed to take the district for granted in his re-election bid. She could take a hint also from Eric Cantor, former Republican Rep from Virginia who was a young rising star who'd already moved into the GOP leadership, and then was successfully primaried because he hadn't been paying attention to his district.
So it's also possible that hubris will lead to a quick fall for AOC, if she lets the national attention go to her head.
It is useful to remember that if you ignore politicians, they go away.

A Club of Rome, Agenda 2030 shill, surely it's no coincidence that all her policies fall perfectly in line with the UN goals. Admittedly the UN goals could be looked at in a number of ways, but given what we know about the cabal it's never pretty is it. Herded into 5G enabled smart-grid cities, forced to ditch our automobiles and eat nutritionally deficient government-controlled processed food 'because climate change'. Meanwhile we're in a grand solar minimum and being propagandised relentlessly that we need to spray the atmosphere with chemicals to 'block the sun'. The World is upside down. Don't fall for it.
