The Ancient Magus Bride - Best New Anime of Fall 2017

in #anime7 years ago

Hello fellow Steemians!

Just yesterday the Facebook algorithms found me a gem! An add popped up for a very interesting looking anime, a small red-haired girl in a white dress in the arms of a very tall man with a wolf-looking skull for a head, wearing a black flowing trench coat. It immediately grabbed my attention and I looked it up, and thank goodness! I found an anime miracle!

Honestly, I find myself giving up on finding a new anime that captures my heart and sucks me into its world like Morbito or Samurai Champloo. I am going through a new-anime drought nowadays, and The Ancient Magus Bride is like an oasis in the desert for my great anime deprived soul. I have been re-watching all the golden anime's with my boyfriend who has not seen most of them. We are both realllly into this new one. The only catch is that it is still airing, and so far only has about 8 episodes out, so I can't binge watch it, which is both a blessing and a curse. I hope it continues on for a long while.

What a stroke of luck that I found this one! It is a shonen anime, with magic and some dark twists, by the creators of Attack on Titan and Seraph of The End. Wit Studio seems to deal with dark themes, and The Ancient Magus Bride is no exception, but I have a feeling that it stands out from the rest. Although it deals with dark themes like Attack on Titan and Seraph of The End, it has less gore (so far) and more story, among many, really touching lessons dealing with life and death. Honestly, I feel like I have learnt something important from this anime, and took away a couple good lessons about death (which may have been needed).

It revolves around magic, sorcery and mages, a perfect fantasy Shonen anime. Originally it was a manga by Kore Yamazaki, which I think I may look into. So far the manga has 8 volumes and is continuing. Dragons, odd non-human characters and fairies of all sorts have already made their appearance only a couple episodes in, and it has already won my favor with its folklore rich magic and plot. I am a sucker for anime with a historic feel and cool realistically druid like magic. The magic in this anime does not seem to be too far out, and it involves both mages and sorcerers. According to my boyfriend, it is Final Fantasy-esque.

My lovely boyfriend is pretty tough on all fronts, but seriously is a sucker for anime. I think it makes him cry more then anything else, and it makes me tear up too. This anime has done that to both of us by only the fourth episode, with its dark but meaningful stories and adventures. I cannot say I have been this excited about a new anime since I found Morbito last winter, and I can't stop thinking about it. This particular episode about cats actually sort of helped me come to terms with my own kittens passing, which was a few months back, but still hurts to think about. This one episode dealt with cats, and also death, which seems to be a reoccurring theme. In conclusion, it is an inspiring anime to say the least, as well as spooky. <3 I think I am gunna go watch it right now <3

Keep on Steemin on! I appreciate the support and up votes, I think I am going to try and fund my first cosplay with Steemit income. I finally decided on super cute leader of the Sanada ninja squad from the near ending of the 3rd season of Rurouni Kenshin. Cosplay is a good cause, and somewhat expensive for noobs who are not great at sewing or make-up like I. Maybe I will also have enough for some cool heritage seeds this spring too!

What do you guys think of this anime? Have you seen it? Are you gunna go check it out? I hope to hear what you think!

Sort:

I found this manga I think last year. It was marvelous... so magical and romantic. their relationship is out of this world.

I agree, and the anime is SO ON POINT in regards to the manga. Just a fw extra scenes that I noticed so far, to add more detail I guess.

yeah. anime was also very good. I really enjoyed reading the manga and watching the anime. ::sigh:: it's getting difficult to find something good these days. Have you read Skip Beat?

no I havent, ill look it up though. Whats it about?

I've been reading it for I think 13 years - damn it's too long - it's about a young girl who goes into entertainment to take revenge on her ex-boyfriend and finds her passion which is acting. Plot sounds very simple but the interpersonal relationships are just amazing. The way the writer portrays growth of characters and their struggles in life is captivating.

cool sounds awesome, ill look into it.

one of the gems of this season and they have done pretty good job with the production

Haha I think it is one of the gems of my lifetime so far honestly. I really do like the animation, although I find the dubbed a bit dubious lol.

ahh that's why i never watch dubbed. every anime series show i watch are with subs in order to hear the ''natural'' voice -voice actor-actor. i think it's more real that way and you get to take in higher amounts the feelings either sad or funny!

I totally agree, and the dubbed and subbed words are totally different a lot of the time. I am taking it a step furthur and trying to learn japanese, so that I never have to miss out on the meaning again. Maybe it will be a good excuse to rewatch tons of anime when I am fluent enough lol.

i am learning too for over a year now! how long are you learning?

From my perspective till now if i watch without subs i get only a small part of it and one huge difference that i came to realize is that the language is a bit different from what they speak in real life and what in anime. a simple example is the anime with the historic attribute samurai, swords ancient era etc etc. a lot of the words used there in real life if you use them they will make fun of you :P

yeah I figured that part out already, its important to have friends who speak japanese so that I can run it all by them before I use it. I have only been learning seriously for about a month I guess. Lots of progress to make.
