YES! We do!

In the past 10.5 months since being on the road, I am BLOWN AWAY at how much they have learnt and remember! I am convinced learning about a landmark, animal or location is so much easier when you can SEE it in real life! And, if it's something our boys are REALLY interested in, then we turn it into a UNIT STUDY where we find videos, books and more to study further about a topic of interest!

Today's post is about the baby turtles at the Mazatlan Turtle Sanctuary.

There were SO many exciting factors to the visit and the first was that we were able to drive our new ATV 20-minutes along the beach to get to the sanctuary! It was a warm evening accompanied by pelicans and seagulls flying each and every way.

Whenever we drive along the beach, we always have to stop to save a pufferfish or two along the way that get washed up ashore by accident. The kids LOVE saving the lives of marine animals as they realize how precious they are to our earth.

Once we arrived to the sanctuary, we were in AWE! There were about 40 baby newborns swimming the the turtle pool.

The CUTEST thing about them, other than their palm size body, was how they use their flippers.

They look as though they are full of the utmost joy to be alive and fly their little flippers in every direction in hopes of learning how to use them a little better. Kid of like watching a wobbly child walk for the first time!

Did you know out of 1,000 turtles only one will live?

What this sanctuary does to help preserve this endangered species is...

-Locate the 100+ turtle nests with their 100 eggs.
-Incubate the eggs
-Help the turtles get strong in their pools before releasing
-Hold NIGHTLY releases of the turtles so that the birds do not eat them increasing their chance of survival.

Seems like we just missed the season. They typically release from September to December.

The reason these little guys might be here past the season in this pool is because they might need a little bit more TLC from the sanctuary until they are strong enough to head out.

I am assuming that is why they have some larger turtles.

It was so fun, we were able to hold them which made it an experience of a lifetime for us all, especially our two boys!!

And, of course, we drove back home to our RV along the stunning beach at sunset. We were SO excited, we couldn't stop there, so we decided to watch a Turtle's Journey on Netflix to really get an idea of of these little lives.
