B**ch please! I'm FAAAAABULOUS!!

Contrary to human species (I know, debatable, but hey, my post, my opinion :P), in birds, where sex differences exists, males are normally the most beautifull ones. And that is even more true during breeding season, where a vast number of behaviours and displays are done by the males in the hopes of attracting females attention: from strange dances, ellaborated singing, to plummage displays. And in some cases... amazing things like this can be seen:

The Great bustard is the heaviest flying bird of Portugal, and basically impossible to be confunded with any other species, given its size and colours. The male's plummage display during courtship is just stunning, where it almost seems that feathers are turned inside out!

During breeding season, in some bird species, the male's plummage also changes a bit to brighter colours, and some characteristics can only be seen at this time; the bustard's "whiskers" are an example of this:

I would love to be able to say these pictures were taken in the wild; I have been lucky enough to spot them in the wild, but these photos were taken in "La Algaida", a bird breeding center in Jerez de la Frontera, in Spain. If you want to try and spot them in the wild, in Portugal the Alentejo region is where you can find them... if you're lucky! :)
