Will the war in Syria now, after the success of government forces and their allies, end? It's hard to say. Conventional military operations will, hopefully, come to an end. But these are just visible wars, and even those are often hidden. What we can mostly see, is the display of a war that is distributed by forces involved in it, which we can never be sure of, in what relation - if any - is by doing on the ground. From the first Gulf War, when the United States revolutionized war reporting, virtualization of the war only accelerated, and propaganda - in particular in the West - totalized itself.

We see only visible wars

But even if the outbreak of war has nothing to do with military operations and their effects, it is still part of the war. It's not just about being processed by military propaganda. It's not about propaganda complementing and supporting the material war (and that governments in the West use war in the Middle East to escalate increasingly orchestrated propaganda). The relationship between that conventional war that we see and all of war, to all the others that the war now covers, is similar to the relationship between a visible and invisible church in Christian ecclesiology. As believers in literal life were included in the visible church, at the same time they were part of the invisible mystical Christ's body, the soldiers involved in the battle formations and the sensory effects of their operation are at the same time part of the invisible mystical body of the war. Moreover, this mystical body of the war is increasingly covering us all.

Difficult to ignore militarized societies

Just as things are set up now, it's becoming increasingly impossible to live outside of the war. Perhaps we can observe how our societies are militarized. In the United States, this is very difficult to ignore. In Europe, NATO demands that civil infrastructure be prepared for war. We can also observe how exceptional circumstances not only limit the validity of laws, but also begin to replace the political system, and how science is increasingly drawn into the military-security industry, which dominates the economy. Less noticeable is how we are increasingly incorporated into the war as our invisible church.

What I say seems to be moving away from the initial question whether the war in Syria will end. But the war in Syria is a kind of war that goes beyond the geographical boundaries. We can look at it as a local term of the global war. Therefore, it raises the question of whether it can even end - at least until we live in the political and economic system that we have today.

Unsustainable development of military technology

Descriptive labels for the type of war that shape the fate of today's world are asymmetric and hybrid warfare. This war is so far away from those wars in which the armies mounted themselves opposite each other in the battlefield and shifted power, as it is at all possible. The all-round progress made by the past centuries - the development of productive forces and social relations, the triumph of freedom and democracy, and everything else - has totalized war, the development of military technology is unsustainable, the battlefield has long been everywhere, the civilian population is a legitimate target of military activities, countries no longer have a monopoly over violence, the clues of international law are loosened, the legal basis for warfare is irrelevant, and lawful power is an outdated term. In the modern war, military operations have a lesser role (but they are increasingly destructive), and among the regular military formations, the key role of small special units is assumed. The growing importance of online or cyber war, economic war and political destabilization are at the forefront of color revolutions, "regime change", instrumentalization or dismantling of international institutions and mechanisms, media war against external enemies, and the debilitation of one's own population, a cultural war. US political leaders publicly say they expect government tech hybrid efforts to include "tech firms" such as Google and Twitter. (Cynics or realists will say they have already)

What is a "war"?

Syria seems to be a fairly conventional battleground in this web of insanity and pain. There are obvious contradictions in the eyes that no one tries to hide, but they have almost no effect on the perception of war - as if wars never existed.

The fundamental contradiction is, of course, that countries that are more or less directly creating terrorists, supported, organized, armed and trained them, claim to be fighting terrorism in Syria. In the declared war on terror, they are surprisingly ineffective, but at the same time they effectively destroy civilian infrastructure, tear down the civilian population and lead them to refugee and migration. They are hostile to government forces, which are consistently fighting terrorism from the very beginning, blocking them and attacking from time to time, and there are indications of their military support and coordination with the terrorists. Over the past few years, the so-called war on terror has wiped out the war with the help of terrorism. The contours of something are beginning to appear, which could possibly be called terrorist internationals.

Since nothing shows that the forces will, after the relative failure of Syria, give up war by means of terrorism, the war that raged in Syria will most likely move elsewhere. A possible destination is Lebanon. Iran has long been a thorn in the heel. The hybrid war against Russia is already under way. Europe self-destructively participates in it. Its support for the forces in Syria was also self-destructive. The multiplication of terrorist attacks on European soil is still the smallest problem. The effects of the refugee wave will be more far-reaching. The consequences of the "lawlessness normalization" and violence, the adoption of war as an integral part of our lives will be even worse.
