Anarchaforko Anarchapulco Fork Update: Anarchaforko All-Stars @alexlapointe

This originally started as a post to highlight the work and efforts of @alexlapointe with Anarchaforko last year and is now going to be made into a series, which I’ll call “All-Stars of Anarchaforko” featuring a noteworthy forker from last year in each one. Stay tuned, I have like five more in mind already!

One major goal of Anarchaforko is to attract those that get things done here to Acapulco. One such example of this is @alexlapointe, our unofficial official video guy from last year.

He contacted me a few months before the fork and arranged to stay with us in exchange for help on the fork. He mentioned experience with videography and when we got here we found he’s a filmmaker who has even spent time in our beloved neighborhood in Detroit. We bonded over people we’d both met in that special hood.

Having Alex around for the month or so he was here for the most part was a delight, I can’t really remember anything I disliked about having him stay with us and we were genuinely sad to see him go when his time here was done. He was a fairly clean house guest who took care of his own meals, partially because he’s vegan and we just aren’t. He was helpful with the chickens, who seemed to like him. They have a habit of freaking out on new people and catching them off guard, if that happened to Alex I wouldn’t know cause he didn’t lose any chickens in the process like usually happens.

Every morning before the fork he helped with the birds then every day, all day during Anarchaforko he had one of my cameras set up on a camera rig he was carrying around, with the intent of filming and capturing the fork for promotional videos. He was having a blast, but he was also working and you could see that.

When it came time to actually make the promotional videos, he was waaaay more on his shit than me, ready months before I was to do this. When I finally got the footage to him there was barely any time left as he was about to leave for travel but he still managed to make us two short videos and one long one, all of which are amazing.

Last night I released the second of three videos, the only one left being the long one. I get a little emotional when I watch these videos because they remind me so much of the good from last year and why we keep fighting to keep the fork going, even with the crypto bloodbath going on right now.

Alex exceeded our expectations and that’s worth pointing out. He got involved because he liked what we were doing and ended up becoming an integral part of the conference, just by being a good and helpful person. That’s all it takes.

So if you like what we’re doing and you want to get involved, don’t hesitate to do so! You could end up being the one person to really make a difference this year, like both @alexlapointe and @kennyskitchen. This isn’t just our thing!

And the goal we had in mind worked. We attracted plenty of amazing people who get shit done and Alex is just one of them. Soon I’ll share more about the Anarchaforko All-Stars from last year.

To Alex, thanks again for everything! Hope you find yourself on this half of the planet in February!
