We’ve had a lot of people ask us where to stay during the fork and truth is we’ve been working to figure that out.

For whatever reason, someone decided it was a good idea to host an International Alcoholics Anonymous Conference here in Acapulco during the same weekend of the fork, in what’s essentially the Las Vegas of Mexico. Acapulco is known as the place where Mexican’s come to get drunk; there’s even a bar on the Costera called Drunk City.

This AA conference has taken up the occupancy of most of the major hotels making it so we aren’t able to partner with any of them for cheaper rooms. The only one we could partner with wasn’t even offering as cheap of rooms as they do online, so we’ve decided to leave that up to you with our guidance so you can get the best deals possible.

There are many ways to handle the housing for the fork and how you do that is honestly going to be based on you, your budget and how long you’ll be forking with us. Look at this as another opportunity to sculpt your experience to what you want it to be. We’re not here to tell you where to stay although we will advise it be close to the fork location for ease.

If you can only make the main event at Acapulco International Center (February 23-25) we suggest a nearby hotel, like the Copacabana. There will be rooms available all over the for all different budgets, anything directly on the coast or in the popular parts of town like Costa Azul (which is close to the conference center) are going to be more expensive than places near downtown or Caleta.

Many of the good deals with hotels and cheap places to stay here aren’t listed to be found anywhere online. Great deals are to be found for those adventurous enough to wing it and find a hotel upon arrival instead of booking in advance. For anyone on a budget, consider just handling finding your hotel once you get here!

If you want to stay for the full fork there’s always the option of renting a house. We’re already in the process of looking for and renting houses near the fork to rent out the rooms to forkers. Those opportunities will be posted as they come up and its up to you to contact us to reserve your room if you’re looking for cheap, easy group living situation. We’ve been sharing our house hunting adventures in preparation for all of this which I’ll share below for those interested in looking for their own place.

Be warned, hotel prices will be unnaturally high during that weekend of the main event because of the alcoholics anonymous conference. For this reason I do actually encourage people consider the idea of a rental for the whole duration of the fork if they’re able to do so. The money you spend on several nights at a nice hotel could probably secure you a whole furnished house or a decent apartment to yourself for a month and I’m not kidding. Any houses rented in the main by by forkers are great locations to throw parties or other fork events, as not everything can and will happen at the convention center. I’ll share some rates of hotels for that weekend below, as they stand right now.

There’s a channel in the discord server dedicated to talking about these sorts of things called housing-hotel-chat, for those looking for roommates, housing or help with being pointed in the right direction so to speak for their needs. I can’t guarantee that any of those properties are still available so these posts are more examples of the types of places you can find here than sharing listings you can rent. For those serious about staying the whole time, we can help you find a place within your budget and needs for your stay.
