For all you veggies and vegans, and I know there are ever more of you, might I recommend that you get to know Nooch?

Nutritional Yeast, affectionately known as Nooch by those who use it for just about everything, is a cheesy, nutty way to get all nine of the essential amino acids your body can’t make on its own, with just one serving of 2 tablespoons per day. Not only that, but 9 whole grams of protein, 4 grams of fibre and most of your daily B vitamin requirements.

If you don’t eat animals, the source of most of the B vitamins in our diet, you may just be deficient, especially in B12. Even if you are one of those among us who think food is something which moos, oinks or baaas, but are trying to cut down on dairy for health reasons, Nooch, or Nutritional Yeast, may be just what you’re looking for.

Nooch is a dried inactive yeast which is grown on Molasses. Inactive means that it no longer has the ability to reproduce or ferment. It comes in flake or powder form and you can get it fortified with B12 or without. Never one to make a decision where one isn’t necessary, I use both.

A very versatile foodstuff, it will enhance the flavour of almost any meal. Sprinkle it on top of your soup, over your sambo or breakfast cereal or, use it to make mac “n’ cheese. Even the blandest of fare comes alive with a little nooch. Fancy a tasty, healthy beverage? You can drink it dissolved in water or fruit juice. Apparently even dogs go crazy for it!

My own favourite is my signature cordon bleu creamy cheesy sauce which I rustle up each morning for breakfast

Melt a little coconut oil in your saucepan. In a bowl, whisk together one tbs of flour with some (homemade) hemp milk. Pour the floury milk into the saucepan keeping the heat very low. Add a tsp of mustard, a pinch of freshly ground pepper and sea salt, 3 pinches of garlic granules, 3-4 tbs of nutritional yeast and as much milk as needed so it’s nice and thin. Voila! the most divine sauce I have ever tasted bar none. Your mother will thank you, your father will thank you, your sister will thank you.........

Many claims have also been made for its anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties as well as its benefits in lowering cholesterol and treating cancer naturally due to its selenium content, but whether they are to believed or not, it makes a damned handy addition to your pantry .

This post is part of a challenge proposed by @tonyr to post a work of art each day for 26 days, each corresponding to a letter of the alphabet.

Another letter completed and an excellent post packed with useful information. :)

I'm also a vegetarian but unfortunately I don't get enough of the foods I should and instead have a high sugar based diet which I recently discovered is by far the worst and most dangerous diet of all, so I really need to give serious thoughts to my eating habits and cut out as much sugar as possible but I'm a fussy eater at the best of times. I don't think I'll be trying Nooch anytime soon I'm afraid. If I do I'll have to do the old hold the nose trick and gulp it down. :)

Nutritional Yeast is amazing stuff, I drink it in a glass of water and it tastes lovely, brings the water to life. I have it on my breakfast as well. Love the stuff. Smells like cornflakes, lovely smell and tastes yummy raw or in water.

OK, OK. :) I'll have a look for it on ebay and give it a go. :)

Cheers mate.

If you're under 35 I wouldn't worry too much but past that.....Yes indeed, a diet high in sugar will lead to all sorts of problems including diabetes which is a marker for dementia. Kick those carbs m'dear and embrace those healthy fats. Avocados, walnuts, olives, almonds.
As for Nooch, it smells divine!

I'm 37 so hopefully I've still got time to reverse some of the affects of eating so poorly all these years and I have the added responsibility now of having a son for whom I need to set an example.

I think I might have found my new health guru though. :)

You're just in time! and your son is more than enough reason to start.
Getting into our 40s and 50s the body can take a lot less pummelling.
You wrote eloquently about parenting; looking after yourself is an important aspect of that. After all, you don't want him emotionally and maybe financially burdened in later life because of your lifestyle choices now.
Health Guru, ha ha ha. I guess I do love to stand on my soap box, and as always thanks for your encouragement to do that here on Steemit.

looking after yourself is an important aspect of that.

I'm beginning to appreciate that and also life more and more. :)

Sound like something worth trying. I'll have to check where I can purchase this where I live and if I find it, I'll try it, keeping in mind I'm one of those pesky vegetarians.

Of course you're vegetarian. All the very best people are!

Believe me, you will not regret getting into Nooch. I don't know how I could possibly live without it.
Holland and Barret stock it here so perhaps in England also.

I already found a place to order it from online and can't wait to try it. It really sounds like something I'm going to like a lot.

By the way I'm not in or from England, you could say I'm barely in Europe :P

Oh, my apologies. I've no idea where I got the idea you were located in the quare place.

Let me know what you think of the nooch. I don't know what I used to eat before I discovered it.

Oh, no problem at all. I've never really shared my location on steemit yet (at least not directly) so I guess it's easy to be confused.

I'm looking forward to trying the nooch when it arrives too :)
