The #1 Way to Market Steemit Online

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

So I've been listening to the Steemit Talk Podcast, and there was a discussion regarding how Steemit can be marketed more effectively to the non-crypto community. One of the things I said and weren't discussed in the talk is using viral sharing to promote the platform, and how easy it can be. @modernbukowski said I should make a post as it will hopefully reach someone in the development team of steemit.

Dear developers, Gods of Steemit, please

ADD SHARE BUTTONS!

It's not hard, and by letting creators share their content super-easily with a single button click people can bring in more traffic and content consumers rather than just creators.

Other ideas for improving steemit as a content platform (because I've just been wanting to dump this in a post so it stops swimming around my head):

  • User onboarding process / Tutorial
  • Mentoring rewards - you help a newbie out, and if they succeed to any degree, you get rewarded beyond the curation rewards.
  • More tools in the editor menu - integration with image hosting websites would be helpful.
  • Bookmarking - letting people read posts they found interesting in the feed but rather read later (and not lose in the feed).
  • User Profiles - Intro posts just don't cut it.

Tell me what you think Steemit is missing as a platform to serve your needs.

Hi. So there is a"Share" button that is currently built into posts, with Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. More could definitely be added though. Could you please reply with a list of the platforms that you want added? I will open a GitHub issue.

Also, you should check out the Steemit Wish List. It has a lot of the ideas you are suggesting, and the dev team is aware of the list :)

Oh wow. That list makes me feel bad cause I didn't invest as much in my idea-dump post.
I think that a share link (as we have now) is a good start, but visual graphic buttons, maybe even with a share-count, could really help get newbies spreading the word.

Ok, cool. Thanks for the suggestions :)

I'll open a GitHub issue when I get home tonight.

How about a tip button on your posts. The only way to make money on a post is if enough people vote on it or if a whale likes it. This would give someone who a chance to make some money even if not many people vote.

It a good idea, but I can see how it can be abused.

I think better, more prominent share buttons within Steemit would be great. I'd also like to see Steemit added to services like http://www.addthis.com to generate great follow buttons that point back to Steemit blogs and profiles. I haven't finished my site yet but I've played around with styling a Steemit link to fit with my AddThis buttons, although it lacks their analytic technology. You can see an example in the top of http://www.ithoughtitwouldbezombies.com
I'm a comic artist and could see Steem gaining a lot of traction in the webcomics community. I haven't understood people advertising via billboard, it seems an inefficient use of advertising spend! I've used the advertising service Project Wonderful in the past and think it could be a great advertising channel for Steemit to recruit an artist community. It's heavily used in the webcomic community. I am sure there are other channels I don't know of that are equally catered to specific communities that could be beneficially targeted for marketing. I think we can all work in the communities we are strongest rather than a wide, generalized strategy, and that will benefit Steemit the most.

Thanks! So how do we make the guys on top hear us?

Basically you just have to join Chat ) Or create a really big flashmob )
Really soon the Russian sidechain Golos will start. Let's see if we'll have there all that from the beginning.

I lurk the chat regularly. Now also the podcast. :)

I don't know - I think you just have to hope that one of them or someone who knows them sees these ideas.

@techslut - you have already been heard ;)
or maybe you could chat with a witness - or a whale

I would also love to help however possible. I can't code, but I sure know quite a bit about online marketing and consumer behavior and such. I don't know how many of the developers working on steemit have these skills, but I would love to contribute mine.

Good post!

There already is a share feature for FB and Twitter. Maybe it just needs to be more prominent and perhaps add a few more options for other social media sites?

That's exactly what I mean.

Great idea of making a post about it, good job!

It was your idea! I'm gonna add that to the post.

I'm just kidding, hun :D Your success will profit us all, i really hope that they are gonna implement this. User growth would speed up tenfold, no doubts.

And here is a great way to market Steemit Offline!!!
